About the Role

Leicestershire County Council's Highways and Transport Technical Support team is seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Engineer to lead and manage our Highway Road Surfacing Treatments schemes. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the county's road network, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety for our residents and road users.

As a Senior Engineer, your key responsibilities will be:
• Lead and Manage: Supervise and mentor a team of technical staff, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities.
• Scheme Preparation: Oversee the preparation and delivery of Leicestershire County Council's Highway Road Surfacing Treatments schemes, from inception to completion.
• Project Management: Manage project budgets, resources, and timescales to ensure effective and efficient delivery of programs.
• Technical Expertise: Provide specialist technical advice on road surfacing treatments, ensuring compliance with national and local standards.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors and consultants, to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Continuous Improvement: Monitor and evaluate completed schemes to identify lessons learned and implement improvements in future programs.

This role is a "Safety Critical Post" and, consequently, subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with our policies and procedures. A copy of our Substance Misuse Policy and Procedure is available upon request.

About You

To apply for this post you must hold or have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering or a related field
  • Extensive experience in highways engineering, with a strong focus on road surfacing treatments,
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a multidisciplinary team,
  • Strong project management capabilities, including budget control, resource allocation, and risk management,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and best practices in highways and transport, Highways Act, NRSWA, Traffic Management Act, Traffic Regulation Act, CDM etc
  • Membership (or eligibility for membership) of a relevant professional body, such as ICE or CIHT, is desirable.
