About us
Lancashire County Council is the fourth largest local authority in England. As the Highway and Traffic Authority we are responsible for maintaining the safe and effective use of our road network. As part of that role the Highway Operations and Design Service maintains over 1800 bridges and around 70km of highway retaining walls.
About the role
We are looking for three enthusiastic, motivated and skilled Senior Engineers to join our vibrant and growing team.
You will play a key role in an exciting programme of highway infrastructure development and regeneration across Lancashire.
Working in an established, organised team, you will identify and develop design solutions on bridge and highway structures projects including new build, strengthening and maintenance, working to achieve ambitious budget and timescale targets.
You will have a thorough knowledge of current design standards and specifications relating to civil engineering, with experience of inspection and managing the delivery of engineering projects. You will have a track record for delivery, a thorough knowledge of health and safety requirements and have a suitable qualification.
You may be required to provide leadership including day to day management as well as technical expertise within a small team engaged on common projects.
The post is a permanent, full-time role with your primary office base in County Hall, Preston. Our flexible working approach allows you to combine office and home working to achieve the best work life balance.
The role involves attending meetings and visiting sites so the successful applicant must hold a valid driving licence and is expected to have a vehicle available for use on official journeys.
The benefits
We value our staff as individuals and aim to help them achieve their full potential. We offer a work environment that encourages staff engagement, team working and problem solving, and we recognise the importance and benefits of an excellent work life balance. In return for your passion and expertise we offer a generous benefits package.
These are just a few of the benefits you could enjoy:
- Flexible working hours (based on a standard 37 hour working week) along with opportunities for agile working.
- A range of learning and development opportunities.
- Extremely generous Local Government Pension Scheme with great employer contribution, death in service payments, life assurance and dependents pensions.
- Great Holiday Entitlement starting at 26 days per year rising to 32 days after five years' continuous service. Also bank holidays and 2 additional fixed days over Christmas and New Year.
- Lifestyle benefits and discounts on anything from electrical goods to car leasing through the County Council's benefits scheme.
- Family friendly policies that help balance family commitments, such as generous maternity and paternity leave, support for working carers, and adoption and parental leave.
