Smiths News are looking for a Senior Engineer to join the infrastructure team in a rapidly changing, exciting and dynamic environment.

About the Role

This role is for a VMware Vcenter and Veeam Backup Administrator.

Responsible for the design, implementation, and administration of Smiths News' Veeam Backup and Replication infrastructure. This role ensures the security, availability, and integrity of data through efficient and effective backup and recovery solutions. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of Veeam products and experience with various storage and virtualization technologies.

This role includes also configuring and administering vSphere environments, managing virtual machines, and implementing best practices for virtualization management. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with VMware technologies and a strong background in virtualization and systems administration. The role will include the responsibility for managing and maintaining the VMware vCenter infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and scalability of virtual environments.

Building new VMware systems, ensuring they are running smoothly with vSphere replication options and correctly backed up using Veeam.

We are continually looking to improve our environment, so you will be working with the latest versions of Veeam and Vmware and office suite. Our datacentre uses the latest flash storage arrays and we optimise our systems with cloud technology. We are looking for someone who will be able to help us streamline our processes and ensure we deliver high quality consistent services to the business.

• The position is based in Swindon. The candidate will be required to come into the office for 60% of the working work.
• The position may require on-call availability and occasional after-hours working
• The role will require occasional visits to other locations and to the Smiths News Data Centres

About you

• Problem solver with strong communication skills
• You will have had at least 3-5 years of managing veeam and vmware sysems
• Manage a Veeam backup and replication environment
• Experience of managing jobs and troubleshooting
• Managing daily backup schedules and controlling a full Veeam environment
• You will also have a excellent working knowledge of Vmware systems
• Able to act as a Vcenter administrator configuring and managing a vmware environment, able to perform upgrade, troubleshooting and manage an estate of 700 Virtual machines.
• You will be part of a highly skilled infrastructure team and will be able to draw on the skills of other team members as they will draw on your skills to help manage the environment
• You will be a self-starter and be able to manage your own workload, look for improvements, bringing your own ideas and knowledge as well as being willing to embrace new technologies and learn on the job.
