Senior Embedded Software Systems Engineer

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

Job Description
Are you looking for an embedded systems career with a wide variety of work, and continuous support for your personal development?

Joining our team as an Embedded Software Systems Engineer, you will use all your development skills on a range of systems and applications - from video equipment, to aircraft 'black boxes', satellite communication systems, control and monitoring systems, and much more.

You're going to fit in if you love using your skills on a wide variety of different projects - developing high-quality solutions to customer problems.

When you join us, you will already have considerable experience developing embedded systems through the full lifecycle. But that's just the start of your story with us.

You will have your own personal development plan, a mentor, your IET membership fees paid, and support for continued learning - e.g. becoming a Chartered Engineer.

We are looking for an experienced systems engineer familiar with Agile embedded systems development to join our team. You must have a strong understanding of software engineering and be comfortable working with electronic systems.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including software engineers, FPGA engineers, electronic engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and project managers to deliver integrated solutions.

You must be experienced across the full systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis for complex systems, system architecture, system verification and validation.

If you are an experienced software engineer with some systems engineering experience and are looking to move into a more focussed systems engineering role, please get in touch so we can discuss how you might succeed in this role with the right support and training.

ITDev is an equal opportunities employer. We believe diversity and inclusion is central to our success. We make recruiting decisions based on your experience and skills. We are looking for passionate people from a range of backgrounds and we welcome applications from any race, age, gender, background or religion.

We actively encourage applications from those who are returning to work after a career break.

Our culture and way of working has been recognised in the South Coast Tech Awards where we were the winner of the 'Tech Employer of the year' in 2019 and finalists again in 2023 with particular praise for how we support the continued development of our team.

Flexible working

You can work in the Southampton office, or on a hybrid basis.

If you want to work on a hybrid basis, you need to be prepared to visit the office when needed (for example, when working on Integration, Verification and Validation tasks with hardware located in the office). Our culture and values are vital to the success of the business, so we believe it's important to have some face-to-face contact with you in the work environment.

This means you need to already be eligible to work in the UK, and able to get to Southampton easily.

We are happy to consider experienced embedded software engineers that have some systems engineering experience that wish to move into a more focussed systems engineering role with support and training.

Responsibilities

You will work across the full product lifecycle. You will be responsible for:

  • Estimation:

Assisting with the generation of engineering estimates at the system level, for example, for quotations.

  • Product backlog:

Creating and maintaining a product backlog.

  • Feasibility Studies:

Determining the feasibility of proposed systems, for example for cost and performance.

  • Requirements Management:

Capturing, analysing, and managing system requirements.

Ensuring that these are well-defined, verifiable, and traceable throughout the product development process.

  • System Architecture Design:

Creating and refining system architectures to satisfy the requirements including constraints such as performance, cost, and size.

  • Interface Management:

Managing the interfaces between subsystems and external systems, guaranteeing interoperability, and required performance.

  • Integration, Verification and Validation:

    Developing IV&V plans and procedures.

Requirements

We would love to hear from you if you have some of these skills and experience: -
Embedded programming experience is a 'must have'.
