Overview
Expleo is a leading Global Engineering Services Provider with UK presence in 10 locations. We are seeking a Senior Electrical Enginner to work with our client, in Cheadle. In this role the successful candidate will play a key role in the full lifecycle development of complex underwater systems - from concept design through to integration, verification, and in-service support. You'll work within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, contributing to the electrical and functional design of mission-critical subsystems. The role offers a unique opportunity to influence product capability, shape technical solutions, and support systems deployed worldwide in challenging maritime environments.

Responsibilities
- Define, analyse, and manage electrical and functional requirements for underwater systems and subsystems.
- Develop detailed electrical designs, including schematics, circuit layouts, and wiring diagrams.
- Integrate electrical subsystems into larger sonar and mission system architectures.
- Participate in design reviews, FMEA/FMECA processes, and configuration control activities.
- Produce high-quality technical documentation (requirements, ICDs, design reports, test procedures).
- Support build, integration, and verification in both laboratory and platform environments.
- Ensure compliance with relevant electrical and defence standards (Def Stan, MIL-STD, EMC/EMI, safety).
- Collaborate with Systems, Mechanical, and Software teams to ensure cohesive, end-to-end functionality.
- Contribute to system trials, acceptance testing, and technical liaison with customers and suppliers.
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
Essential skills
- Demonstrated experience across the full engineering lifecycle - from concept to verification.
- Strong understanding of power distribution, control systems, grounding, EMC/EMI, and cabling.
- Proficiency with electrical design tools (e.g. AutoCAD Electrical, Zuken, or similar).
- Familiarity with Def Stan, MIL-STD, and naval electrical standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).
Desired skills
- Background in maritime / underwater / defence systems.
- Experience in system safety or functional analysis (FTA/FMEA).
- Exposure to sonar, acoustic, or mission-critical electrical systems.
- Experience working with engineering processes (DOORS, Polarion, Windchill, etc.).
