The Role
REPORTS TO: Electrical Engineering Manager
LOCATION: Cardiff/Edinburgh/Glasgow
As a Senior Electrical Engineer working with Bute Energy, you'll be responsible for managing the Electrical Engineering process and related opportunities and issues for the existing portfolio of onshore development projects and new opportunities, enabling the integration of higher volumes of renewable energy into the grid. This will encompass primarily onshore wind and also other technologies including solar and battery energy storage systems.
Main Responsibilities
- Design of all aspects of wind farm, solar and BESS electrical systems across the portfolio of projects.
- Undertaking the design of HV substations associated with the portfolio of Energy Parks.
- Specification of HV electrical plant and equipment and supporting the procurement process.
- Design of overhead line and underground cable systems for transmission connected projects.
- Preparation of Employer's Requirements/Works Information for electrical engineering works.
- Supporting the Grid Connections team with aspects of the grid connection process and managing interfaces with the ESO, TOs and DNOs.
- Understand grid code compliance requirements and support project teams as required (for example in relation to wind turbine selection and procurement).
- Provide specialist support to prepare for project FID and procurement activities.
- Develop project documentation, tools, processes, and procedures that will benefit the development of the portfolio of projects.
- Contribute to the development of synergies between the different onshore wind projects and other technologies in the portfolio.
- Identify the need for specialist external technical support, manage the technical aspects of procurement of specialist external support, including drafting work scopes and undertaking technical assessment of proposals.
- Manage external specialist technical support to ensure project requirements are delivered on time and to budget.
- Ensure electrical design work takes account of CDM and this is considered throughout the design and construction stages.
What we look for in return
Knowledge & Skills
- Experience in the electrical system design of major renewable generation projects.
- Good technical knowledge of the operation and challenges associated with electricity transmission and distribution systems.
- Knowledge of key aspects of the applicable regulatory regimes.
- Knowledge of wind farm, distribution and transmission asset electrical system design process and techniques.
- Understanding of the planning and consenting processes associated with onshore renewable energy projects, distribution and transmission connected assets.
- Effective communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and team working skills.
- An initiative-taker who can progress work on their own initiative.
Experience & Qualifications
- A degree in electrical or power engineering or equivalent.
- A minimum of five years' experience within the power/ energy sector.
- Experience in either the onshore wind or electricity distribution / transmission sector is strongly preferred.
- Chartered Engineer or working towards chartered status is desirable.
