Senior Editor - Medical communications (inScience Communications)

Locations: London, Chester or Manchester

inScience Communications is a full service medical communications agency forming part of Springer Healthcare, a leading publisher of medical educational products for the healthcare community.

As a Senior Editor you'll work closely with team members to produce high quality scientific content of medical communications that satisfy client needs.

You will be responsible for reviewing, copyediting and proofreading a wide range of scientific documents and materials for use in medical communications projects, with a focus on accuracy and clarity. You will also manage the company style guide and consult with account teams on specific style questions.

Responsibilities

  • Review and edit content, including manuscripts, reports, abstracts, presentations, posters, digital content and other medical communications deliverables
  • Check for grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors, and make necessary corrections
  • Suggest changes to improve the clarity and flow of content
  • Proof-reading of content
  • Ensure that the content adheres to appropriate style and tone
  • Review artworked graphs and figures for accuracy and adherence to appropriate style
  • Ensure consistency is maintained both within and between projects according to style guides
  • Verify facts and figures in the content against marked-up references to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Create highlighted and mark-up reference packs. Work with Veeva Vaults PromoMats and other digital platforms to manage the copy approval process
  • Develop and maintain house style guides
  • Work closely with other team members, including writers, designers, typesetters, and client services personnel
  • Meet deadlines and work efficiently under pressure
  • Participate in internal meetings to provide input from an editor's perspective
  • Provide insight into project timelines
  • Manage time effectively to deliver projects to a high quality, on time and within budget, highlighting potential delays to the appropriate team members

Experience, skills and qualifications

Experience

  • Extensive experience as a copyeditor/proofreader within medical publishing/communication agencies or pharma

Skills

  • Editing Skills: A strong command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, as well as the ability to revise and improve written content to ensure clarity and coherence
  • Attention to Detail: The ability to identify and correct errors, inconsistencies, and inaccuracies, and to ensure that content adheres to established style guides and tone
  • Fact-Checking: The ability to verify facts and figures in the content to ensure accuracy
  • Adaptability: The ability to work on a variety of projects, styles, and subjects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven experience and confident in interacting with other team members
  • A proactive and flexible team player with a collaborative approach
  • Proven organisation/time management skills
  • Ability to manage internal processes
  • Highly computer literate with good working knowledge of common software (e.g. Microsoft Office suite) and gains new software skills quickly

Qualifications

Desirable:

  • Batchelors degree
