A little more about your role...
- Take a key role in the delivery of Highways Infrastructure projects ensuring quality and timely delivery are at the forefront.
- Very likely act as a lead designer or project manager for the delivery of highways related projects, which may include organisation and management of project resource, leading project meetings, financial reporting as well as client engagement and reporting.
- Ensure successful technical delivery of aspects of project delivery under your remit is met in accordance with client scope & ensure projects are delivered in line with company requirements.
- Engage with internal WSP staff (in other teams or sectors) to ensure the your aspects of the project are delivered to the highest quality, in line with scope of services.
- Be vigilant in ensuring that financial outcomes are achieved or exceeded for those projects you are working on through diligent working and sound business/financial management.
- Take a proactive approach to the reporting and mitigation of matters which present a risk to the achievement of successful delivery of projects.
- Assist the Project Manager and Project Director with the development of business relating to Highway and Transportation activities across the Region.

- Working closely with North Tyneside Council, Gateshead, South Tyneside & Redcar & Cleveland are just a small selection of the client base for which we already have excellent working relationships and a forward workload.
- Delivering the Highways design aspects of junction interventions, Active Travel, OBC and FBC's across Tyne & Wear and Teesside to help clients (and WSP internal teams where applicable) obtain valuable 3rd party funding from DfT and other key stakeholders.
- Reporting to Associate, Roads within T&I
- Working within Highways Design team and supporting Highways Drainage where required in Newcastle office within a wider Consultancy Team of around 200 multi-disciplines including traffic engineering, highways engineering, bridge/structures, intelligent infrastructure, earth & environment, Development Infrastructure and transport planning.
- Role has significant opportunity for development such as progression to Principal Enginer role is very possible based on experience and sustained in-job performance.
- Newcastle office is based at Amber Court, Newcastle Business Park, in close proximity to city centre, coffee shops and amenities. Also good links for public transport such as bus within just a few minutes walk.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate...
- Have a Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent
- Have as a minimum ICE Incorporated Engineer status (IEng) or be committed to achieve this within 12 months of appointment. Ideally the candidate would be heading toward Chartered Status through ICE or CIHT.
- Be experienced user of Windes drainage modelling design software and Highway Alignment design software (eg 3D Civils or MX).
- Be experienced in working with Developers and Local/Water Authorities on Highway/Drainage adoption and approval processes.
- Carry out the lead design role across a range of highway projects to ensure successful delivery. This may include responsibility for programming (using Microsoft Project) and resource allocation for activities.
- Be AutoCAD proficient and experienced in overall highway/drainage design and detailing requirements.
- Be flexible to work across the full range of Civils Design areas and adopt an integrated approach with clients and internal/external consultants.
- Have a good working knowledge of DMRB and current drainage design standards and procedures.
- Have a degree of knowledge and experience of NEC3 contracts and administration/delivery.
- Excellent understanding of the green book business case process (DfT).
- Have good presentation and communication skills.
