THE ROLE

We are currently recruiting for a new Senior Director of Public Affairs to lead our existing Public Affairs Team.

Reporting to the Chief Customer Officer, this role is responsible and accountable for leading the Group Public Affairs function for the British Business Bank, British Business Investments, British Patient Capital across all key external stakeholder and government audiences.

As the Senior Director of Public Affairs, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that enhance the Bank's reputation and promote positive relationships with key stakeholders, including, Ministers, Special Advisers, Parliamentarians (the Opposition, Select Committees and APPGSs), business and finance groups and Think Tanks.

You will lead the public affairs team and work closely with executives and the Board to protect, position and promote the Bank's reputation, shape stakeholder and government perception, manage crisis communications, and champion the Bank's mission, impact and values.

Key outcomes will be for government and stakeholders to advocate for the Bank's interests so that the Bank achieves positive outcomes at fiscal/ policy announcements, as aligned to our strategic objectives.

You will be an accomplished Public Affairs leader with extensive experience of stakeholder and reputation building and management across a broad range of industry groups and government stakeholders. You will demonstrate a strong, existing network of senior stakeholders ranging from No10 to CEO's of key business and finance bodies. You will have experience in providing senior counsel and strategic advice to the Bank's CEO, Chair, Board, Executive Committee and Senior Leadership Team. Leading a Group Public Affairs function of 8 people with budget responsibility of circa GBP 100k.

To be considered for this role you must have a proven track record of delivering tangible outcomes in a very high-pressured/ high-workload environment and be a trusted adviser to Chair, CEO, Board and the senior leadership team.

You must be able to demonstrate a strong network of senior stakeholders ranging from No10 to CEO's of key business and finance bodies as well as experience of successfully managing numerous Select Committee inquiries, particularly Public Accounts Committee, Treasury Select Committee and Business & Trade Committees.

You will have an excellent knowledge/ understanding of HMG, parliament and the stakeholder landscape across the UK and be able to demonstrate reputational risk management successes and strong political acumen.

You must also be able to demonstrate the ability to successfully deliver outcomes working on cross organisation projects.
