We are looking for a Senior Director of Data Science & Analytics to lead Preply's Product, Business, and Marketing Analytics and Data Science organisation.
This is a senior leadership role with broad company impact. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of around 35 people today, growing to approximately 40-45 over the next 12 months, across Product Analytics, Marketing Analytics, and Business Analytics and Data Science. The team already plays a critical role in how Preply makes product, marketing, marketplace, learning and financial decisions. Your mandate is to raise the ambition, impact, and operating bar of this function as Preply scales.
You will partner closely with senior leaders across Preply's to shape business strategy, improve decision quality, and turn data into repeatable growth and impact.
You will bring both strategic leadership and technical depth. At Preply, leaders are expected to set direction, build strong teams, influence executive decisions, and dive deep when needed into the quality of experiments, metrics, analysis, and recommendations. You do not need to be the person doing every analysis, but you must be able to challenge assumptions, raise standards, and ensure the organisation is making high-quality, evidence-based decisions that translate into measurable business impact.
While Applied AI/machine learning are led by dedicated teams, this role will be a critical partner in ensuring AI-enabled product and marketplace decisions are grounded in strong measurement, experimentation, and business impact..
What you'll be doing
- Set the strategy for Data Science & Analytics across Product Analytics, Marketing, Business Analytics, and Data Science, ensuring the team is focused on Preply's highest-impact growth, marketplace, learning, and AI-enabled opportunities
- Lead and scale a high-performing organisation of around 35 people today, growing to 40-45, with clear expectations for quality, impact, leadership, hiring, development, and accountability
- Turn data into business impact by partnering with senior leaders to shape product, marketplace, marketing, and financial decisions that improve conversion, retention, monetisation, learner outcomes, tutor success, and long-term value
- Raise the bar on experimentation and measurement, helping Preply make high-quality decisions in complex environments where impact can be hard to measure
- Strengthen commercial and marketing decision-making through better measurement of acquisition quality, incrementality, lifetime value, payback, and budget allocation.
- Build scalable standards and ways of working for trusted metrics, consistent decision-making, high-quality analysis, and strong collaboration with Data Platform, Analytics Engineering, Experimentation, and Applied AI teams.
- Lead AI-powered self-serve analytics to turn trusted metrics, analysis workflows and business context into AI-enabled data products, helping the business use data to make faster, better decisions
What you need to succeed
- Senior leadership experience leading analytics and data science teams teams in a high-growth product, marketplace, subscription, consumer, or other digital business, with at least 7+ years leading analytics or experimentation organisations - managing managers
- Strong business and strategic judgement, with the ability to connect data to company strategy, influence senior stakeholders, challenge assumptions, and make clear trade-offs. Ideally having experience working closely together with finance and business teams
- A track record of measurable impact across areas such as conversion, retention, monetisation, customer lifetime value, marketing efficiency, marketplace performance, or product engagement.
- Deep experimentation and measurement expertise, with the technical judgement to evaluate quality, ask the right questions, and raise standards across teams.
- Commercial and marketing analytics depth, including experience with incrementality, attribution, acquisition quality, payback, lifetime value, and budget recommendations.
- Proven ability to build and raise the bar for senior teams, including hiring, developing managers and senior ICs, setting expectations, improving performance, and creating a culture of high standards and accountability.
- Technical leadership, you must be able to challenge assumptions, raise standards, and ensure the organisation is making high-quality, evidence-based decisions that translate into measurable business impact.
