Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• To ensure protocols and standards are maintained and improved to produce best diagnostic information and patient care.
• To perform imaging examinations as an operator under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017.
• To follow the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) guidelines, local rules and the departmental standard operating procedures.
• To comply with accurate patient identification procedures.
• To ensure referrals are justified correctly and booked in a timely manner.
• To give advice where appropriate on the validity of requested examinations.
• To be aware of radiation safety when undertaking CT examinations and ensure the safety and protection of patients, staff and carers are adhered to.
• To perform standard equipment quality assurance (QA), record results accurately and alert the Superintendent radiographer/medical physics as required.
• To assess specific communication needs of individual patients and to ascertain from the patient, patient's guardian or the referrer, patient's suitability and consent for receipt of intravenous contrast media.

Person specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • State registration
  • DCR/BSc in Radiography
  • Postgraduate certificate mammography

Desirable criteria

  • Cannulation certificate or completed workbook
  • Postgraduate experience in mammography

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of good organisation and communication
  • Evidence of leadership and team building

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in supervision of diagnostic radiographer staff in modalities

Skills Abilities/knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Ability to express themselves clearly in English
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely in English
  • Ability to use word processing software and IT systems
  • Evidence of working within a team

  • Evidence of CPD in relevant modalities

Flu Vaccination - What We Expect of our Staff

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
