We are recruiting for a Senior Design Manager to join our team in Newport, working on our data centre projects. This is a great long-term opportunity for someone as we have a strong pipeline of projects ahead of us.
Job Purpose & Scope:
Responsible to lead/manage the design process in order to develop a design compliant with all contract requirements and in the most cost effective way. All information will be fully coordinated in order to deliver the project on time within budget and to meet the client`s requirements.
Overall responsibility for Project Design Management. Overall management of the Design Consultants Liaises between the Client, the Design Consultants and the project staff for design matters Liaise with Site Manager for the development of design packages and procurement strategies.
Accountabilities & Key Tasks:
- Understand client requirements/output specs
- Ensure pricing assumptions are consistent with the development of the design - with Pre construction manager
- Monitors design progress and ensures the accuracy and completeness of design variables at each stage of the design development process (ITN Phase / PB Phase / Construction Phase)
- Ensures that all resources for coordination are appointed
- Prepare monthly report to Design Leads
- Responsible for design compliance, build ability, efficiency of design and supporting the bid process.
- Responsible to lead the sign off of documents to the correct status
- Prepares and validates the Design Management Plan (DMP)
- Prepares the Project`s Document Management Procedure in accordance with TEC.CMP.05.
- Endorses Consultants` DMPs
- Defines consultant values and authorizes appointed consultants payments
- Defines designer`s objectives: time, details, ratios, coordination`s, etc.
- Manage the flow of design information and the Document Control
- Support the procurement and commercial teams
- Representing BYUK at Client/User/Local Authority and other stakeholder meetings
- Co-ordinate the input from BYUK Technical Department necessary to develop a robust design
- Manage the Environmental Certification Process i.e. BREEAM / CFSH
- Manage (preconstruction) or participate (construction) the Design Transfer from preconstruction to construction
- Complete / approve Design Consultant Assessments
- Prepares / validates design programme in line with procurement strategies (developed by the Commercial Manager / Construction Manager)
Essential & Desirable Criteria:
Essential
- Relevant Construction or Architecture qualification
- Previous main contractor experience
- Expert understanding of the Design & Build process
- Excellent knowledge of the design process, at commercial and construction design stages
- Understands the RIBA plan of work
- Strong in depth technical knowledge
- Good knowledge of planning process
- Proven experience of managing design on numerous projects.
- Working knowledge of building regulations
Desirable
- Good knowledge of Building Contract and Consultant Contracts
- Desirable to be chartered with the CIOB, RIBA or similar
