SP Energy Networks is part of ScottishPower, we provide power on behalf of supply companies through a network of cables and power lines that we own and maintain. Through our transmission and distribution network we provide power to customers in Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and North Shropshire as well as Central and Southern Scotland.
Our Senior Design Engineers develop and deliver Main Plant engineering solutions for our transmission networks (132kV and above); providing necessary basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs, innovation, effective technical support, advice and input throughout the lifecycle of projects.
By defining technical and economic criteria, Senior Design Engineers ensure established quality and safety standards are achieved, whilst maximising profitability and provide Engineering consultancy to other parts of the business as required.
What you'll be doing
Define Main Plant and ancillary apparatus requirements for input to System Construction Authorisation (SCA), Project Technical Specifications and BETTA documentation and advise on construction and outage programmes where required in relation to the Main Plant.
Responsible for basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for Networks and all aspects of the Main Plant System.
Provide engineering specialism in the field of Switchgear, Transformers, and all other associated substation equipment.
Responsible for technical assessment of tender submissions, preparation/review of Main Plant design drawings and specifications.
Ensure the Main Plant and equipment proposed for the substation are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
Provide technical support to the Project team on matters concerning the design, construction and operation of all switchgear, transformers and associated substation apparatus and lead the technical resolution of site/ construction switchgear and transformer issues.
Responsible for engineering documentation following quality processes to meet deliverables for PQP's and BETTA.
Perform all duties with a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environment compliance and continuous improvement and liaise across multi-disciplinary engineering teams to provide end to end integrated solutions.
Maintain an awareness of technological advances and industry best practice. Assist with evaluation and apply 'new ideas', technical developments, new equipment, and alternative-working methods to provide cost savings, efficiencies and improved safety, reflected in review of policies and standards.
Assess engineering documentation, feasibility and compliance with business requirements and support the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects.
What you'll bring
- Chartered Engineer Status (or working towards).
- Ability to implement, apply and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice in a design environment.
- Having the ability to investigate and understand technical characteristics of substation plant and associated equipment.
- An understanding in terms of the plant and equipment deployed for transmission networks and how it is operated / maintained.
- Experience in the implementation of new technologies and engineering solutions to achieve reductions in project lifetime costs.
- Proven experience in a responsible position and knowledge in one or more of the following areas at voltages from 33kV to 400kV:
- Switchgear
- Transformers
- Substation Auxiliary equipment
Minimum Criteria:
- Engineering Degree with relevant experience
- Proven experience in electrical infrastructure projects
- Full UK driving licence
