Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Population health analytics to help understand the needs of patients within NWL and nationally and how current services can be re- shaped to meet these needs
- Create statistical models using patient level data from the real-world linked datasets e.g. Discover dataset
- Writing complex SQL queries, analysing data in SNOWFLAKE, and having demonstrable understanding of the data warehousing frameworks.
- Project Management
- Delivering on a range of data science projects to both public and private sector clients. Project usually require conducting and interpreting highly complex statistical analysis.
- Being a domain expert, understanding what information is available to address a specific problem, as well as being able to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each approach
- Designing and developing complex econometric models that are transparent and user-friendly
- Helping to develop specific analysis, methods, and/or tools that can be used for the purpose of population health improvement.
- Working with clients and stakeholders from operational, clinical, and commercial backgrounds to understand and define the question we are trying to answer.
- Developing reproducible analytical pipelines and documentation using Rmarkdown for R or Jupyter notebook for Python.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven experience with Python, R and /or another data science programming language (SQL, SAS, Stata etc).
- Experience in applying statistical / econometric methods to address real world problems
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of epidemiology / biostatistics, particularly analytical issues relating to studies of treatment effectiveness, disease progression, adherence, healthcare utilisation, etc.
- Experience in writing complex SQL queries
- Experience in building and deploying machine learning models

Desirable criteria
- Leadership Skills: evidence of leadership competencies in vision, delivery, decision making, understanding and managing context, emotional intelligence, relationship building, people development and tackling difficult issues.
- Ability to assess planned projects to ensure they will exceed expectations; and to develop and communicate high quality, accurately costed proposals reflecting the client brief
