Salary Grade: G9; Salary Range: £39,513 - £44,711 (Pay Award Pending)
At Walsall Council Digital and Technology Services (DaTS), we support and develop a wide range of business applications while pursuing an ambitious program of work to improve our digital capability.
We have a brilliant opportunity for a proactive, hardworking, self-motivated enthusiastic person to join our Cyber Security Team and help us continue to shape our cyber security services to make sure we make the best use of the comprehensive set of tools that we have and offer the best protection for the council and its customers. We are looking for someone that has experience in Microsoft tools who is willing to actively seek out and understand current and emerging cyber security threats and monitor and develop tools and devices to minimise risk and impact to the council.
Some of the things you'll get involved with are:
- Working with our 3 rd Party SOC provider to monitor and maintain cyber security across all aspects of corporate technology
- Supporting the implementation of new threat management technologies
- Leading complex investigations and undertaking vulnerability assessments relating to cyber security
- Providing first point of contact for security incidents and overseeing them as required, including communications with business representatives
- Providing advice to customers regarding any cyber related issues
- Procuring, via line management, new DaTS cyber infrastructure and software in accordance with council procurement procedures
- Identifying needs, specifying work packages and overseeing the work of third-party support
- Providing training/coaching to other DaTS officers
- Acting as a second, after line manager, as a point of contact for any business-critical support requirements from the DaTS Service Desk and take ownership for resolution
- Attending and being an active participant in working/project groups and other meetings, as the team's representative
- Developing and maintaining security policies and procedures
- Initiating and suggesting new DaTS cyber infrastructure technology or service concepts as part of continual service improvement.
As a Senior Cyber Officer, and as a key member of the Cyber Security Team some of the skills and experience you will need are:
- Experience with cyber methods and technologies
- Excellent IT skills, particularly with Microsoft products
- Excellent, verbal, listening and written communication skills
- Ability to manage your own time and workload and to sometimes work under pressure
- An understanding of the application of risk management
- Practical experience of managing a range of stakeholders
- A good appreciation of wider local government and relevant national issues
- An aptitude and willingness to learn.
