About the role

The Senior Corporate Communications and Media Officer is a central role within the Communications team, critical for our mission to drive climate action, fast. The role's key goal is to strengthen the profile of Climate Group and its CEO through a strong media presence and thought leadership across platforms and events, Climate Week NYC in particular. The role also drives our media monitoring and impact reporting.

The role requires media expertise, experience with social media, and a good understanding of climate change and organisations and influencers in business and politics working on the issue, especially in Europe. The media work will happen through reactive and planned moments, especially around our flagship events such as Climate Week NYC, the Climate Group Asia Action Summit, and COPs.

The role works very closely with communications colleagues in our Government and Policy team, but also our Systems (Energy, Heavy Industry, Transport, and Food), our Marketing Team and communications colleagues in our offices in New York, Amsterdam, New Delhi and in China.

The role reports to the Sr Communications and Media Manager and works closely with the Director of Programme and Corporate Comms. This is an international role based in London. The role will involve some international travel.

Key responsibilities will include:

Corporate comms and media work

  • Supporting our strategic media work, and fostering / strengthening our relations with (inter)national journalists, broadcasters and podcasters, and our impact.
  • Strengthen the profile of Climate Group and its CEO through media and social media presence and through other strategic profiling opportunities such as events and speaking opportunities, ensuring we are front and centre of relevant climate debates.
  • Drafting briefings for senior management ahead of media interviews and major speaking opportunities.
  • Drafting thought leadership content including speeches, op-eds, social media posts, blogs and other site content, and podcast content.
  • Supporting Climate Group's consistent and engaging external narrative, which shines through across our platforms and campaigns.
  • Take a proactive approach to identifying media and communications opportunities that amplify our profile and policy impact, working closely with colleagues to maximise reach and effectiveness.
  • Look out for new, creative ways to highlight Climate Group's work and network, our thought leadership and profile, including by working with external partners.
  • Building on a knowledge and data-led approach, keeping abreast of relevant issues.
  • Monitoring external impact and reputation and supporting with issues management.

Campaign related external communications

  • Supporting our external comms work around our flagship events and campaigns, ensuring we are an authoritative and inspiring voice on climate challenges and solutions.
  • Keeping our key messages and narrative up to date and front of mind with colleagues.
  • Vigorously plan to maximise the comms success of major pieces of work, including reports, briefings, and events.

Teamwork

  • Playing a pro-active, innovative and solutions focused role within the international comms team.
  • Reviewing external reports and feeding in to ensure they create opportunities to profile Climate Group and its partners and members.

About you

Essential:

  • Excellent and fast writer with strong communication skills.
  • Experience in writing briefings, speeches, op-eds, social media posts, blogs and other site content, and podcast content.
  • Strong team player.
  • Solution-focused mindset with the ability to problem-solve effectively.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when required to support events and announcements across international time zones.
  • Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good understanding of climate and geopolitical trends, particularly in the EU.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.

Desirable:

  • Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those spoken in Asia or Europe.

Where you'll work

Based in our London office, near the iconic Tower Bridge, you'll enjoy a flexible hybrid working arrangement - three days in the office, two days from home each week.

Our office is designed to support both collaborative work and focused individual time. It includes accessible facilities, a well-equipped gym, secure bike storage, and showers. Plus, we're easy to reach by bike and public transport.

Occasional international travel can be required.

This is a permanent position. The salary offered is £33,610 to £36,970 per annum, based on experience.
