About us

We are looking for an experienced contracts professional to be an integral member of the Contracts Team, which provides a professional, effective and efficient service for King's researchers by drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising on contracts from private and public sector organisations for King's research activity.

This is a new role within the recently developed KCL Clinical Research Hub, co-led by the Department of Research Governance, Ethics and Integrity (RGEI), King's Clinical Trials Unit (KCTU) and Pre-Award and Contracts. The post holder will work closely with the King's Clinical Trial Unit and the Research Governance Office, as part of hub working, to provide a joined-up matrix model of provision for clinical trials support across King's.

About the role

The Senior Contracts Associate in Non-Commercial Clinical Trial, Drug Supply and Devices Agreements will negotiate non-commercially Sponsored clinical trial related contracts and other similar agreements, with an emphasis on the efficient contractual management of clinical trial projects overseen by the KCTU/RGO and other clinical studies across King's, as needed.

Candidates should have experience of negotiating legal agreements, preferably in a university or clinical environment and be confident and persuasive negotiators with a track record of successful negotiation with different stakeholders. Experience of costing and pricing project budgets is desirable.

Applicants also require excellent organisational and communication and literacy skills, proven decision-making ability and be able to work well under pressure, both individually and as part of a team.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1. Degree or equivalent professional qualification/experience

2. Proven track record of negotiation of clinical trial related agreements, current national model agreements, material and data transfer agreements, including negotiation of intellectual property, liability/indemnity and price

3. Proven negotiation/influencing skills in relation to external funders and partners and ability to analyse and problem solve complex contractual issues.

4. Knowledge of regulatory frameworks related to the NHS and clinical governance, device regulations, confidentiality, data protection and material transfer

5. Strong leadership skills and management or mentoring experience, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ownership of driving staff development.

6. Ability to manage a large and diverse turnover of agreements and excellent organisation skills (managing team workload and remit, multiple competing priorities)

7. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas with clarity and liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders of varying seniority

8. Sound numeracy/IT skills

Desirable criteria

1. Experience of using EDGE, IRAS forms

2. Knowledge of full economic costing methodology (FEC), AcoRD costing methodology for NHS and social care research and SoECAT forms

3. Working knowledge of the university research funding environment, including experience and familiarity with key funders' terms and conditions
