Senior Content Designer

We are looking for a creative and experienced Senior Content Designer to join our team. In this role, you will shape and deliver engaging content across a variety of digital platforms. You will collaborate with officers and police staff across the organisation, helping to reduce demand on operational services, improve digital adoption and enhance relationships with the public.

The role:

You will take a lead role in shaping the content on the public-facing website, staff intranet, online forms, and in-house built applications. Your work will help us support victims of crime, educate people, and improve online processes.

This role has line management responsibility for a team of Content Designers. The Senior Content Designer will report directly into the Lead Product Owner for the Website, Intranet and Online Forms.

Offering hybrid working arrangement, you can work the majority of your time from home with weekly visits to the office. Our office is based at Police and Fire Headquarters in Portishead, with free parking and a range of on-site facilities, including a gym and coffee shop.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation and development of clear, concise, and engaging content for digital platforms
  • Mentor and guide content designers to foster team growth
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design content that enhances the user experience
  • Ensure consistency and adherence to brand voice and style guidelines across all content
  • Develop and maintain content frameworks, templates, and best practices
  • Use data and user feedback to continuously optimise content for usability and effectiveness

Skills & Experience:

  • Extensive experience scoping, commissioning, writing, editing and publishing content to style, using a content management system
  • Proven experience in content design, preferably in a senior or leadership role
  • Have a solid understanding of web best practices, on-page and technical Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), accessibility and user journeys.
  • Be able to turn project briefs into clear deliverables.
  • Competent with developing user needs, reviewing and developing content against them, plus using them to identify content gaps and overlaps.
  • Experience of analysing and interpreting web analytics to make data-led decisions.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an agile environment
  • Data-driven mindset with a focus on improving content performance through research and analysis

Who you'll be working with:

The Content Team are responsible for maintaining content on the public-facing website, staff intranet, online forms, and in-house built applications. Their work supports over 2 million online users and over 6,000 staff each year.

As a Senior Content Designer, you will work closely with Content Designers, UX Designers, User Researchers, M365 specialists, Product Owners and Front and Back-End Developers.

The successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to work from home whilst also at a secondary work location, which will be a police premises.
