We are looking for Senior Consultants to support our team in its focus on delivering sustainable value for our clients and to address the most pressing strategic climate transition issues in business and society today. We seek to help our clients Imagine, Deliver and then Run their climate journey; this includes understanding the commercial choices and implications they have to make.

Although all our projects are different, we commonly answer strategic questions including:

  • What is our company's aspiration and purpose within the net zero and sustainable economy?
  • How do I align the leaders in my business around this?
  • What are the key constraints inhibiting progress towards net-zero goals?
  • How do I structure my business to drive growth and innovation in this context?
  • How do I anticipate and respond to disruption in my industry driven by the net zero agenda?
  • How and when should I invest in sustainability innovation?
  • Who are the system actors an organisation needs to partner with / or influence to drive systemic outcomes?
  • What policies and incentives exists or need to exist to underpin and scale action?
  • How do I secure the supply chain and workforce to scale my organisation's ability to deliver net-zero?

As a Senior Consultant you will be delivering strategy work for our clients day-to-day, seeking to shape and initiate strategic direction, define vision and choices, support performance and enable change.

While no two projects are the same, you will typically be leading a workstream within a larger engagement and managing a small number of analysts or consultants, with oversight and support from a manager or senior colleagues as needed. You'll play a vital hands-on role in designing and executing the strategic analysis required, conducting research and assembling evidence, distilling insights and shaping the development of organic and inorganic strategic growth strategies.

Your role will include supporting with:

  • Strategy & Transformation: Design and deliver insight-driven strategy for transformation and wider organisational change. Working with clients to understand and define strategic choices ahead of key investment decisions. Using traditional evidence-led analysis to identify opportunities to support client strategies.
  • Commercial Strategy: Determining the optimum business model to effectively deliver client objectives. This could include: making choices about the stakeholders and markets served through digital, social, and mobile channels; optimising cost and pricing decisions, supporting procurements / transactions, new commercial constructs between suppliers, distributors and customer and stakeholders, and shaping commercial agendas.
  • Strategic Performance: Helping our clients configure effectively and develop their ability to deliver operational excellence in specific areas. Identifying new ways of working that will stimulate innovation and growth, and lead to better decision-making. This may include delivery of improvements through performance optimisation or cost reduction / efficiency methods.
  • Business Case Strategy: Supporting organisations in drafting business cases for investment to improve delivery, in line with the strategic ambition and/or Green Book guidance in the case of Public Sector clients. This can often lead to end-to-end support from business case design to implementation of the new resource/ capability/ change. Exploring M&A choices, including identifying early target, venturing, or partnering options and building M&A roadmaps.

Responsibilities: As a Senior Consultant your responsibilities will include:

  • Analytical thinking, problem solving and insight: Select appropriate methods for collecting and analysing data, to build an evidence base and develop informed recommendations that shape or support the clients' strategy. Independently complete research and analysis to support quality deliverables.
  • Tools, skills and frameworks: Develop a mastery of strategy and M&A tools and frameworks to solve client problems and share best practice within the team.
  • Project delivery excellence: Effectively aid the shaping of the project structure and appropriate methodology to diagnose the issues and deliver the core objective. Own and deliver workstream activities, providing insight and challenge. Own and deliver high-quality deliverables, planning and managing own activities. Identify and escalate project related issues and provide appropriate mitigation recommendations.
  • Practice development: Contribute to identifying and developing areas of expertise or propositions, work alongside team leaders to support go to market such as POV drafting.
  • Presentation & communication: Strong PowerPoint skills which can clearly communicate approach, analysis, and results. Organise insights and define a logical flow to tell a story when presenting recommendations.
  • Leadership & Development: Acts as a primary steward, responsible for end-to-end high-quality client ready workstream deliverables, and own the day-to-day client relationship, where appropriate. Have a clear understanding of and demonstrate the firm's commitment to creating a more inclusive culture.
  • Team management: Manage junior team members to lead the delivery of a workstream or small engagement, providing them with day-to-day direction and support. Develop a basic understanding of project economics and contribute to budgeting, pricing and statement of work development.
  • Relationship management: Engage executive-level clients confidently and professionally, manage daily client interactions and expectations, and proactively input on risks, acting as a trusted member of the team.
  • Business development: Build a clear understanding of client's desired outcome through ongoing alignment and steers direction of work accordingly, seeking senior input at regular points, and starting to build expertise in a specific area by contributing to relevant firm initiatives and eminence.
  • Continuous Learning: Proactively develop your own skills, seeking feedback, building knowledge, and sharing your insight with colleagues.

Essential

  • Demonstrated passion and experience of delivering sustainability and net-zero transition economy challenges
  • Extensive experience of strategy development in one of the following environments:
  • Experience of working in a strategic role which analyses an organisation's current position and helps to identify and implement future strategy recommendations
  • Experience in a corporate strategy delivery role, delivering large-scale strategic transformation programmes
  • Exposure to strategy development and transformation activities and a desire to build a career in this area
  • Experience working on projects which involve strategic decision-making and choices
  • Demonstrable experience of managing stakeholder relationships
  • Experience leading project teams and being responsible for delivering business critical outcomes in a time-pressured environment
  • Collaborative approach and working style that fosters teaming with other businesses and peers with different working styles
  • Mastery of the strategy consulting skillset:
  • Ability to use issue-led problem solving, comfort with ambiguity, ability to adapt and learn quickly to think creatively to solve client issues
  • Structured thinking and the ability to break down complex issues
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to undertake analysis and generate insights and recommendations
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills
  • Ability to distil complex ideas into simple concepts and clearly and concisely deliver key messages. Good understanding of how to construct and evidence strategic arguments, structure analysis and ability to understand market challenges and opportunities.
  • Flexibility to travel

Desirable

  • Industry experience in Energy, Resources & Industrials (ER&I), Financial Services, Agriculture, Consumer sectors or Public Sector
  • Engineering backgrounds (given focus on ER&I sectors)
  • Understanding of key sustainability topics such as Nature and Water
  • Understanding economic theory and application, including systems thinking and design
  • Financial analysis and accounting skills
  • UK security clearance (Security Check or higher)
  • Postgraduate or professional qualification (e.g. MBA or equivalent)
