Due to the ongoing success of this initiative, we are currently looking for a highly skilled and motivated Environmental Consultant to join our dedicated team in supporting the Front-End Engineering Design of cutting-edge industrial fuel switching projects.

Position Overview: This is a great opportunity to join our expanding Environmental Solutions Group and Future Energy community. As an experienced consultant, you will help drive our ambition to grow and become a trusted environmental advisor across the energy sector by leading and contributing to project delivery and business development, with a particular focus on Future Energy related projects (including both onshore and offshore).

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the growth of the Environmental Solutions Group through the winning and delivery of Future Energy projects, providing guidance and technical expertise relating to these projects, enabling project development applications, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, optimising sustainability practices and enhancing project outcomes, in order to support our clients in achieving their Net Zero ambitions.

We are seeking consultants with a range of experience in environmental impact assessment and consenting, with demonstrable experience related to the energy transition. You will be joining a multi-disciplinary company and team with a great culture and strong, supportive relationships. The role can be based in our London, Manchester, Leeds or Newcastle offices; however, we do operate a hybrid working environment, which provides the opportunity to work from any of our other UK offices and from home.

Core responsibilities

As a member of our Impact Assessment and Permitting (IAP) Team, this position offers excellent variety of work and will see you involved in:

Technical/ Project Delivery

  • Leading, managing or providing technical inputs to a wide variety of projects including environmental impact assessment and/or environmental permitting.
  • Enabling close collaboration with cross-functional teams including clients, engineers, planners, and stakeholders to integrate environmental considerations into project design and decision-making to ensure that the project design achieves consent.
  • Managing or preparing high-quality reports, documents, and presentations that effectively communicate complex environmental concepts to a range of audiences.
  • Staying current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to renewables environmental management, contributing to the continuous improvement of our services.
  • Mentoring and training members of the IAP team in their technical growth.
  • Working collaboratively across our relevant service lines and global network of environmental professionals.

Business development

  • Contributing to the identification and pursuit of strategic bid opportunities that will strengthen team capability and enable the growth of both pipeline and backlog.
  • Leveraging your industry knowledge and experience to develop and maintain lasting client relationships built on trust and delivery.
  • Identifying new product or service offerings to better meet the needs of existing clients or markets.
  • Developing and submitting proposals ranging from routine, low risk projects to large or complex, high-risk projects, which may involve influencing and convincing internal and external stakeholders to buy-in to suggested proposals or plans. Including the coordination of the third-party supply chain.

Skills, experience and qualifications

  • Proven experience in environmental consultancy (or similar) with a track record in winning work in and delivering environmental impact assessment and consenting projects, with an in-depth understanding of regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple and/or complex projects simultaneously, to meet deadlines and manage budgets, and work efficiently within a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in building and maintaining client relationships and industry networks.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to environmental challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, with the ability to communicate complex issues concisely and effectively.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and professional development, staying informed about the latest industry trends and advancements.
  • Professional certification (e.g., Chartered Environmentalist) or membership in a relevant professional organisation (e.g., IEMA, CIWEM) are advantageous.
  • 5 - 10 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications.
