  • Salary: £40,777 per annum (pro rata for part time)
  • Hours:37 hours per week - flexible working options available
  • Contract: Fixed term or secondment to 30/6/2027 (secondment cover)

Your role and responsibilities

The Senior Construction Engineer works within a small team managed by a Principal Engineer reporting to the Technical Manager. You will:

  • manage a team of engineer's workload and undertake annual reviews on their personal development
  • inspect the construction of roads, footways and drainage comply with highway construction standards, specifications and design guides
  • arrange and document results of stage inspections and compliance testing for materials and construction
  • carry out Adoption inspections and provide recommendations for final adoption and release of Bond, update records and inform organisations of highway adoptions
  • take action with developers or their contractors where acceptable standards are not being met.

You will need

  • knowledge of all aspects of highway design and construction and relevant sections of Highways Act
  • to be able to solve complex and wide-ranging problems and be a confident communicator with strong verbal and written skills
  • be able to interpret drawings, specifications and technical documentation.

The team

The Transport Strategy team is part of the Strategic Development division, helping to deliver growth in Suffolk. The team is responsible for:

  • developing transport policy, including the Local Transport Plan
  • securing funding, and the delivery of new transport infrastructure and initiatives
  • development management, ensuring new developments are sustainable in highway terms to support Suffolk's growth ambitions.
