About the roleThe Senior Compliance Assurance Manager will oversee the 2nd Line Compliance Assurance team within the John Lewis Financial Services (JLF) Risk Management Framework. You’ll be responsible for ensuring that policies and controls are effective and that customers are receiving good outcomes. The role's scope covers all JLF products and services, including general insurance, credit cards, loans, and foreign currency.
In this role, you will provide line management to the Compliance Assurance Managers, coordinating and monitoring reviews in the annual assurance plan. This includes guiding your team on regulatory expectations and ensuring adherence to operating standards. The role requires a strong understanding of the UK financial services regulatory environment.
A key part of the job is building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders across JLF and the wider Partnership. You’ll be able to adapt your communication and influencing styles to achieve effective collaboration and ensure all financial service touchpoints align with best outcomes. Also you’ll be expected to work closely with other Compliance and Risk colleagues, sharing knowledge and insights.

Working pattern/flexible working - The Partnership has adopted a hybrid working approach, meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business.
Key responsibilities
-
Provide people management to the Compliance Assurance Managers (up to 3 individuals) when allocated and guidance to the Assurance Team overall regarding technical and operational matters.

Oversee the delivery of review-based assurance activities in line with the Compliance Assurance Programme and review schedule.

Monitor and support the completion of review work by the Compliance Assurance Managers. Complete targeted assurance work directly when required.

Provide technical and operational oversight to Assurance Team members regarding regulation and John Lewis policy standards, monitoring techniques and compliance with Assurance team standards.

Oversee and review core review documentation before submission for approval and publication.

Manage the Compliance Assurance Team subject matter training, leading activities and sharing knowledge and expertise.

Build and sustain effective working relationships, providing strong stakeholder management throughout the review process and when working with the leadership teams.

Ensures Assurance reviews are input promptly and accurately onto the JLF risk management system.

Escalate issues, weaknesses and or errors to the team lead as appropriate.

Provides input to the development of the Compliance Assurance Programme, review schedule and operational processes for the Assurance function.
Essential skills/experience you’ll need

UK Financial Services experience in insurance, consumer credit and or retail finance

Excellent, proven Regulatory Compliance Assurance / Monitoring with prior management and or technical expert responsibilities

Empathetic line management and coaching; building high performing teams

Excellent direct and written communication skills

Proven track record of engaging and influencing diverse stakeholders: considerable emotional intelligence and awareness
