Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic and client centred occupational Therapist to join our team in Lewisham!

If you are looking for a dedicated OT role within an experienced Multi Disciplinary Team, and love working with people to address their complex occupational needs in a recovery focussed way, please apply for this role!

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide an occupational therapy interventions to service users with complex needs within the neighbourhood as an integrated member the community mental health team addressing secondary care needs. This will include specialist OT assessment, planning and intervention, which might include groupwork, to promote well being, recovery and empowering person centred practice. Although this is a dedicated OT post, The post holder will be required to hold and integrate both the OT specific and generic elements of their job to include care planning and risk assessment. The post holder will participate in the development, delivery and evaluation of both the Occupational Therapy and MDT interventions and will work closely with colleagues in their team as well as OTs in each team across the borough.

As well as a community clinical lead OT and a team manager who provide close support and supervision. you will be working alongside other mental health practitioners such as peer support worker, support planner, and vocational specialists, as well as psychologists, doctors, nurses and social workers. the post holder will be responsible for supervising a band 5 OT also working in this team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To utilise a comprehensive set of skills to effectively communicate and engage with service users, their families and the MDT to formulate individuals' strengths and barriers within an Occupationally focused clinical framework.
  • To work effectively and responsively as member of clinical team and implement core decisions with regard to service users care
  • Work in partnership with other relevant agencies to ensure appropriate delivery of care plans including packages of care and social inclusion.
  • To provide leadership and professional expertise in line with clinical experience

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered Occupational Therapist

Desirable criteria

  • Membership of OT professional body and or special interest group

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Post registration experience as an OT at a Band 5 level in mental health.
  • Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues
  • A sound understanding of team dynamics and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary team

Desirable criteria

  • Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions and outcome measures relevant to client group
  • Experience of working with physical health and disability issues and advising on environmental adaptation

Essential criteria

  • Comprehensive verbal and written communication skills
  • Skills in applying evidence based practice
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles of risk assessment and risk management
  • Understanding of the importance of supporting service user involvement

Desirable criteria

  • Leadership and first line management experience
