1. The post holder will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of working with Adults with a Learning Disability and be willing to undertake appropriate post registration training.

2. To understand Health and Social care policy and legislation for the service user group in relation to your professional practice.

3. To keep up to date and support with the implementation of national recommendations including LeDer findings and other health initiatives, to support to reduce health inequalities and improve the health of people with a learning disability

4. To have a good understanding of the specific needs of the service user group including at times of crisis. e.g. during placement breakdowns, mental health and physical health relapses and periods of challenging behaviour.

5. To recognise the impact of a person's communication needs and tailor interaction to meet this need.

6. To have the ability to communicate very sensitive or distressing information to service users and carers as required.

7. To have skills in conflict resolution and positive behaviour approaches.

8. To plan, implement and regularly review nursing care plans

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Teaching and assessing in clinical practice or Mentorship

Desirable criteria

  • Additional clinical training relevant to specialism

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working with adults with Learning Disability
  • Experience of managing a case load
  • Experience of nursing assessment and intervention relevant to adults with learning disabilities

Desirable criteria

  • Post qualifying experience within a community MDT
  • Care coordination in CPA/case management
  • Experience in providing clinical supervision

Essential criteria

  • Ability to travel independently around the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area meeting required timescales. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
