Location: Barrow-in-Furness (On site)

Salary: £35,802+

What you’ll be doing:

  • Perform routine tasks with minimal supervision while maintaining a clear understanding of safety implications within a high-risk environment

  • Liaise effectively with relevant stakeholders to ensure all activities are carried out safely and in compliance with regulations and company standards

  • Provide guidance, instruction, and mentorship to less experienced team members within your area of expertise

  • Research, review, and provide feedback on technical documentation, ensuring it meets required standards

  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all work activities in accordance with company policy, procedures, and legal requirements

  • Take responsibility for your own professional development, including completion of all mandatory training

  • Represent the company during contractors’ sea trials and other off-site assignments as required

  • Deliver assigned tasks and responsibilities in line with company policies, procedures, and applicable legislation

  • Consistently adhere to and promote company Quality, Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) controls and standards

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in commissioning rotating machinery and/or fluid systems, including hydraulics, oil, or steam systems

  • Ability to provide informed technical expertise to resolve emergent issues effectively and safely

  • Demonstrated capability to identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives, share best practices, and ensure compliance with established processes and procedures

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to exchange, challenge, and present ideas clearly and effectively — both verbally and in writing — across a range of topics or within a technical subject area

Desirable:

  • HNC/HND or equivalent in a related discipline or STEM subject

The SMITE Mechanical Commissioning team:

We are seeking a competent Mechanical Commissioning Engineer responsible for the testing and commissioning of nuclear-powered submarines. You will be accountable for the activities you lead during your shift and will take ownership of becoming a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for designated test systems. This role requires strict adherence to company policies, procedures, and all relevant legislation while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance are maintained at all times. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
