Senior Lawyer (Commercial Law)

Are you a qualified solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive with experience with managing a legal team? If so, we have a fantastic permanent opportunity as Senior Lawyer,

This exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Legal Services team at Sheffield City Council as a Senior Commercial Lawyer. The team operates in a fast-paced environment providing legal advice in relation to a full range of commercial matters relevant to local authorities, including contract, procurement and subsidy control, and is heavily involved in much high profile work including the dynamic redevelopment of the city.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be responsible for providing authoritative advice to the Councils Officers and Members, ensuring that decisions are lawful.
  • Manage their own caseload, which will include complex and interesting areas of law.
  • Manage a team of legal professionals

For the role, you would need to have:

  • Recognised Legal qualification (Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEX)
  • Experience of managing a legal team
  • Understanding of legal case management systems and process knowledge

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
