Job overview

We have a vacancy for a Senior Clinical Pharmacist - Adult Mental Health. We are looking for someone passionate about mental health, a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with clinical experience in mental health medicines optimisation to join our expanding pharmacy team.

The role will involve provision and development of patient centred clinical pharmacy services to in-patient wards and clinics as part of the multidisciplinary team. The successful applicant will also act as a role model for Junior Pharmacists undertaking their Clinical Diploma, providing support and supervision at ward level.

To be a non-medical prescriber or willing to undertake the qualification in post is essential, as there are opportunities to develop pharmacist-led clinics to review patients, as well as working as a core member of the multidisciplinary team.

Clinical supervision will be provided as part of this role in developing further expertise in Adult Mental Health.

Main duties of the job

This role will interface with internal and external stakeholders, and has real opportunities to influence transformation of mental health services, such as dementia pathways, later life in older people, care homes, primary care and community workforce, working closely with the medical team.

This is an innovative role working closely with the wider pharmacy team including CMHT Pharmacists, the Lead Pharmacist for Adult Mental Health, Lead Pharmacist for Frailty and Older People and the Lead Directorate Pharmacist, Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge.

The role will include raising the profile of older adults mental health in addressing unwarranted variations in clinical outcomes and responding to the needs of this population group.

There will be involvement in workforce development, including training and education of the junior pharmacy workforce and community teams.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,551 to a maximum of £5,735).

The role will involve covering in-patient wards at Goodmayes Hospital, and community teams in Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Redbridge and will involve an element of travel between community sites. As it is a new role there is great opportunity to individualise and develop the service for older people mental health, further expand the Pharmacy team and make a significant contribution to health outcomes.
