Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification MRCPCH

Desirable criteria

  • Additional relevant clinical experience - APLS/EPALS/NLS
  • Level 3 Safeguarding

Eligibility

Essential criteria

  • Full UK General Medical Council (GMC) Registration with a Licence to Practice at the time of appointment
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies at time of application in line with GMC standards
  • Good Working relationships with colleagues
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Good teaching and training
  • Up to date knowledge and fit to practise safely

Desirable criteria

  • NHS experience desirable

Specific and Clinical Skills

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences and 3 years of neonatal experience, in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice.
  • Acute care safe: up-to-date BLS and NLS. Out of hours experience relevant to the job.
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job, specialty knowledge exam.
  • Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
  • Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required for the job.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job.

Desirable criteria

  • Recent PALs, APLS, ARNI Course
  • RCPCH Foundation of Practice (FOP), Applied Knowledge in Practice (AKP) and Theory of Science (TAS) exams

Clinical Governance / Improving quality of patient care

Essential criteria

  • Clinical governance: Capacity to be alert to dangers or problems. Demonstrates awareness of good decision making. Aware of own limitations. Track record of engaging in clinical governance: reporting errors, learning from errors.
  • Audit: evidence of active participation in audit.
  • Teaching: evidence of interest and experience in medical student and junior doctor teaching where required in the job.
