Other Duties

Junior doctors will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, agreed where practicable, with his colleagues, both senior and junior. While juniors accept that they will assist, additional commitments arising are exceptional and the junior will not be required to undertake such work for prolonged periods on a regular basis. The post holder will take responsibility for improving and complying with infection control practices.

4. Study and Training

4.1 This post is notrecognised by the Royal College of Surgeons.

4.2 The Clinical Sciences Building houses a Postgraduate Centre and library. UHCW hosts the West Midlands Surgical Training Centre.

5 Main Conditions of Service

5.1 The post is covered by the terms and conditions of service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales) as amended from time to time.

5.2 The salary scale is that appropriate for the grade of the post as laid down by the terms and conditions of service

5.3 Rehabilitation of Offenders - all medical and dental posts within Coventry Health Authority are exempt form the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

If you are found to be withholding information about convictions which for other purposes are 'spent' under provisions of the Act - Failure to disclose such convictions could, in the event of employment ,result in dismissal or disciplinary actions by the Authority.

5.4 Other facilities - Social club facilities. Coventry has many places of entertainment including theatres, cinemas, clubs.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

  • BM BCh/MBBS degree or equivalent
  • MRCS examination or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Postgraduate degree/qualifications
  • Teaching qualification
  • Attendance of general & specialised urology courses
  • ATLS
  • FRCS(Urol) or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience at ST1-5 level in urology
  • 12 months previous middle grade urology on call rota

Desirable criteria

  • Teaching experience with documented outcome
  • Development of new teaching materials
  • Dedicated period of Research
  • Successful grant application

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Completed Audit cycle

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Computer Literate
  • Ability to independently perform flexible cystoscopy, LATP biopsy, endoscopic urology, and scrotal surgery
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: 1) That applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or 2) have achieved the following scores in the IELTS in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application - Overall 7, Speaking 7, Reading 7, and Writing 7. - If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of these then please provide details
