Senior Clinical Fellow in Spinal Surgery

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
In-patient care
The Spine Fellow (SF) will be responsible to the two consultants in spine surgery and for maintaining continuity of in-patient care for spinal surgery patients. They will also be expected to do weekends on call for general trauma on a 1: 4 rota, if required (there is additional remuneration available for this).
Outpatients & Theatres
The SF will attend the outpatient clinics and operating lists of the spinal consultants. They will be also be required to undertake some independent follow-up clinics and independent injection lists. The SF will be a member of the spinal MDT and will support the spinal consultants with progressing actions arising from MDT and MSK mentoring.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- FRCS (tr&Orth) or equivalent
- Basic Medical Qualification (MB BS or equivalent)
- Complaint with Child Safeguarding training requirements
- Current ATLS provider certification
- Full registration with GMC with Licence to Practice
Desirable criteria
- CCT or CESR at the time of commencing the post
Experience
Essential criteria
- Log book demonstrating clinical experience commensurate with completion of training in general orthopaedics
- Able to do general on call trauma and orthopaedic duties at registrar level
Training
Essential criteria
- Willingness to engage with ICSP, OCAP
- Keen interest in teaching to all levels of trainees both locally and regionally including FRCS (Orth) courses
Interests
Essential criteria
- Commitment to maintaining and developing a special interest within spinal surgery
Communication and Language Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues and support staff
- Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English
