Job summary

Are you considering a career in Emergency Medicine? We are looking for enthusiastic doctors looking to develop their clinical, academic and leadership qualities. We have a proven track record of helping doctors pass the FRCEM exams and go on to become Consultants in Emergency Medicine. We are a busy Emergency Department in a Teaching District General Hospital located in Watford, Hertfordshire. You will be working as a Senior Clinical Fellow within an established Middle Grade tier, ably supported by a dynamic Consultant body.

The post is for a period of 12 months initially.The department sees 120,000 new patients per annum and is staffed by 24 FY2s, 13 Junior Clinical Fellows, 1 ST1s,3 ST3 (DREEM), 5ST4, 7 senior clinical fellows, 12 consultants in addition to a dedicated team of Advanced Care Practitioners including a Nurse Consultant.

The Department has a 9-bedded resuscitation room, a dedicated Children's Emergency Department and separate adult and children's observation wards. The Hospital is a Major Trauma Unit, part of the North West London Trauma Network connected to Imperial College NHS Trust, St.Mary's Hospital.

Main duties of the job

This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow at Registrar Level to work in the department of Emergency Medicine at Watford General Hospital. The purpose of the post is to provide shop floor supervision and patient care, and to ensure that the patients in the A&E are afforded rapid assessment and management.

This post will give the successful candidate a unique opportunity to gain experience in acute care from an A&E perspective.The department is committed to continuing education for all staff, and has an active postgraduate teaching schedule including departmental middle grade training every week as well as daily board round teaching. The successful applicant will be encouraged to participate in teaching, clinical audit, governance and quality improvement projects.
