We have an exciting opportunity to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic team based at Basildon Hospital as a Senior Clinical Fellow Diabetic Foot in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

This post is a 12 month Senior Clinical Fellow for Diabetic Foot Service with the appointee being placed in the Department of Trauma & Orthopedic Surgery. The post is designed to provide you with a thorough and comprehensive approach to medical and surgical management of patients. The educational methods include assessment of patients in
clinics, pre-operative planning sessions, radiology, rounds and direct surgical experience.

Main duties of the job

This post is a 12 month fixed term Senior Fellowship with the appointee being placed in the Department of Trauma & Orthopedic Surgery.

The services are led by in excess of 18 Consultant Surgeons within the sub-specialties with an element of cross-site working..

This post is designed to provide the successful applicant with a thorough and comprehensive approach to the non-operative and operative management of patients with acute and non-urgent Diabetic foot conditions. Depending upon the competency, there would be fair opportunities for taking a lead role in various operating, teaching and clinic related activities.

The Fellow is expected to work closely with the supervising consultants (Mr Tiruveedhula and Mr Mallick), Orthopaedic Podiatrist and Diabetic Patient Pathway Co-ordinator for the assessment of new referrals in the outpatient setting and inpatient referrals from other specialities, plan non-operative and surgical treatment and participate in MDT.

Liaising with the PPC for the allocation of patients for theatre, the Fellow will have a dedicated slot for admin and research, where the Fellow is expected to update the Diabetic database and complete an allocated research project.

1. To help provide Trauma and Orthopaedic service of highest standard: this is a Consultant led service
2. To work flexibly with other colleagues to achieve hospital's agreed planned activity for in-patient and out-patient services
3. To participate in the full shift middle grade on-call rota system as organized by the Directorate
4. To participate in the trauma meetings as part of the on-call trauma rota

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MBBS or equivalent. MRCS or equivalent

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Effective listener and communication (written & spoken english)
  • Ability to motivate and develop junior medical and other staff

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of leading a team
  • Experience in orthopaedics
  • Ability to develop and maintain a sub-specialty interest
