Job overview
The General Surgery department are looking to recruit a permanent Senior Clinical Fellow.
The remit of the post holder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care for surgery patients and to provide and develop services for King's surgical patients. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support General Surgery with on-call commitment supporting Emergency care, ITU, wards as well as supporting the management of the elective service.
The post holder will be expected to contribute and participate in the department's ongoing clinical audit programme, and will carry out all necessary administrative duties associated with the care of their patients.
The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
General Surgery has a busy outpatient clinic schedule. Most clinics are based at the Princess Royal University Hospital site but clinics are also held in a small number of local satellite locations.
The post holder has an important responsibility for and contribution to make to infection control and must be familiar with the infection control and hygiene requirements of this role.
The General Surgery service at King's College NHS Foundation Trust is a single Trust service and, this post will be based at the Princess Royal University Hospital site near Bromley and South Sites, attendance at other sites including King's College Hospital may be required.
Inpatients General Surgery has its own dedicated ward space at the Princess Royal University Hospital in support of a busy elective schedule and a busy 24 hour Emergency Department, Breast, Endoscopy and ITU areas.
Theatres General Surgery has an average of fourteen elective main theatre sessions per week as well as a daily emergency list. In addition, General Surgery has an average of five day theatre sessions per week and Endoscopy lists 7 days per week.

- Eligible for registration with the GMC
- Middle grade experience, or equivalent in General Surgery
- MRCS or equivalent
Desirable
Desirable criteria
- ATLS (or equivalent) within 2 years.
- Understanding of clinical risk management. Understanding of NHS, clinical governance & resource constraints. Ability to organize oneself & own work.
