Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an 8a (or Preceptorship Band 7) Psychologist to join the expanded Mental Health Liaison team based at Basildon Hospital. We welcome applications from psychologists who are newly qualified, as well as from those with more experience. The successful applicant will form part of the Clinical Health Psychology Services across Essex. We have four other Mental Health Liaison Psychological Services in Harlow, Chelmsford, Southend and Colchester, where there is a network of highly motivated, experienced Clinical and Counselling Psychologist colleagues. The applicant will be working within the CORE 24 model of Mental Health Liaison, looking to support service users and staff to consider the psychological aspects of health. This role requires an ability to create connections with services across physical and mental health providers and to be able to support holistic, system wide thinking.

Main duties of the job

This post introduces psychological assessment, intervention, consultation and support to the Mental Health Liaison team, consisting of Liaison Psychiatry and Psychiatric Nurses. This post is part of a service which has been established for several years. The role is welcomed by Basildon Hospital and there will be opportunity for working across wards and specialty areas. Alongside the inpatient work there are opportunities to work in outpatient clinics, as part of the CORE 24 agenda, supporting people who present with medically unexplained symptoms or complex care needs to provide a more holistic view and intervention route.

Working for our organisation

The Clinical Health Psychology Services are for adults who are experiencing difficulties adjusting to serious chronic illness and other physical health conditions, such as Pain, Stroke, Breathlessness, and Long COVID.

Regular supervision will be provided by a senior Clinical Psychologist. Peer supervision is offered from other Mental Health Liaison Psychologists in Basildon, Harlow and Southend, involvement in the Mental Health Liaison SIG and through wider CHPS colleagues. Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Completed Clinical Doctorate level training
  • Registered with HCPC as practitioner psychologist

Desirable criteria

  • Has completed training relevant to the post

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Has worked with people with a mental and physical health difficulties
  • Demonstrates assessment and intervention knowledge relevant to the area of practice
  • Has worked in the NHS/or equivalent as a qualified member of staff
  • Is able to demonstrate a desire and/or understanding of liaison working
  • Demonstrates knowledge of working with systems

Desirable criteria

  • Has worked in the NHS/or equivalent as a trainee
  • Has worked in liaison settings previously
  • Has experience of delivering supervision to other members of profession or MDT
