We provide highly specialised care for a wide variety of patient groups within haematology and oncology, between 8am and 8pm Monday to Saturday. Staff in this friendly and supportive team develop a range of advanced skills and knowledge by rotating between the 4 main areas of Daycare, Supportive Care, Apheresis, Chemotherapy and Ambulatory care.
We are looking to appoint a Sister/Charge nurse to work in our Chemotherapy unit which provides Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy treatments for a wide range of Haematology and Oncology Patients.
The Haematology/Oncology Daycare Unit as a whole is a sociable, fast moving and progressive area which actively supports nurse led activities and research and offers excellent opportunities for professional and personal development.
Main duties of the job
Within this role, the successful applicant will work alongside another chemotherapy Sister/Charge Nurse and be responsible for the daily management and service development within the chemotherapy unit. He/She will individually manage a core group of nurses as well as oversee the management and leadership of all the staff working within the Chemotherapy unit at that time. He/She will be expected to possess and maintain a high level of clinical competency within the area. He/She should demonstrate excellent clinical leadership and communication skills and have over four years experience in cancer care. They should possess both a cancer nursing qualification and have completed or be studying towards a nursing masters degree - with a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3 or equivalent (30 of which must be haematology / cancer nursing education). In addition to this they must possess advanced skills in IV therapy, chemotherapy, cannulation and venepuncture (including blood products).

Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse (Adult)
- Minimum of 60 credits of Level 3 education or equivalent (45 of these must be specialist haematology / cancer nursing education)
- Teaching qualification or equivalent
- Attained a Bachelor or Masters Degree
- Studying towards a degree or willing to undertake
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum 4 years relevant clinical experience with at least 2 years at Band 6.
Patient Care
Essential criteria
- Advanced Chemotherapy and IV administration skills
- Able to act as a patient educator
- Cannulation/venepuncture skills
- Clinical management
Desirable criteria
- Extended roles eg prescribing
- Central Line Placement
Skills & Abilities : Communication & Customer Care

- Able to act as a patient advocate
- Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
