We are looking for an innovative, ambitious leader with a history of delivering results and developing a team to join the dynamic 'New & Growth Categories' super squad. You'll be the centre of all things new in Currys bringing emerging markets to life for customers across our market leading omnichannel platform.

This is a new team with huge expectations - it's about creating new value and growth for Currys through inspiring and educating customers about the latest and greatest on trend new tech, embedding these new categories into our business and finding the next big thing!You will be responsible for a team of 6 Buyers/Assistant Buyers and will be accountable for supporting their development whilst creating a fun, inclusive and safe environment for the team to excel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Owning delivery of the Category strategy to establish Currys as the retailer of choice for customers in our highest growth opportunity categories
  • Determining the future of 'new categories' in part of this role, so dealing with constant change and ambiguity is a key requirement
  • Harness credible relationships with our suppliers and develop a sourcing strategy to both bring customers the best ranges, supported with availability but also to minimizing the risk to categories as we launch into new areas of retail
  • Negotiating product ranges - cost pricing, additional terms, exclusivity, distribution, stock availability alongside Go to market budgets including displays, training and content budgets
  • Negotiating additional fixed and variable financial terms related to ranging, activity and performance - maximising EBIT across the category
  • Working with merchandising to ensure that we are forecasting at the right level to maximise sales and stock turn
  • Usecustomer and market data provided by the go to market team to ensure correct ranges and promotional plans are in place to drive customers for life, improvements in market share and net profitability through development of exclusive products/plans where appropriate to address customer needs
  • Ensure supplier contracts are completed in line with the company DOA and pre-determined annual timetable

Required Skills & Experience:

  • A natural leader with a proven track record and plentiful experience of managing and developing a large commercial team
  • Substantial buying experience working within a Electrical/FMCG/Fashion or Hard Goods fast paced retailer
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to manage all supplier partnerships at differing levels of seniority
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills to review data and provide recommendations/actions plans to drive sales, profit and cash
  • Good working knowledge of SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Word and PowerPoint as well as MS Office workflow tools
  • Marketing/Merchandising/Retail/Business Degree
