Join Sheffield City Council as a Senior Business Support Officer

37 hours per week, working hybrid in the office and at home

Sheffield City Council has many statutory duties which include discharging the Local Authorities statutory legal responsibility for ensuring Sheffield's children are attending school regularly and accessing appropriate education,

The Access and Inclusion Service comprise of the following teams:

Pupil Admissions, School Attendance & Legal, Elective Home Education, Alternative Provision and Virtual School for Looked After Children.

You will support the processes linked to the School Attendance & Legal team but may have the opportunity of gaining experience by supporting other areas of the service. Senior Business Support Officers work to generic job descriptions and are required to be flexible in terms of area of work and location.

The post will be part of our team based in the city centre working hybrid. You will deal with internal and external communications (via the phone and email), collate and record information on Microsoft applications and specific Council databases. and provide administration support to our Attendance Social Workers to enable the delivery of a gold standard business support service.

You will be required to prioritise your own workload and that of the team, as well as meet deadlines. You should have experience of working in a busy office environment with a good understanding of office processes and procedures.

As a Senior Business Support Officer, you will be expected to line manage a small team of Business Support Officers, carrying out 1to1's, allocating work and monitoring workloads. Additionally, you will be required to support meetings, including taking minutes and distributing meeting documents.

This is a fast-paced environment where the ability to contribute proactively and positively to the team and service is essential. We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:

  • Excellent minute taking skills and experience
  • Ability to facilitate, organise and produce accurate records to time scales
  • Outstanding customer service skills, both face-to-face and over the telephone
  • Excellent word processing skills and experience of all Microsoft packages
  • Assisting with and supporting the data input process and associated systems, ensuring inputting deadlines are met
  • Strong ability to accurately input and retrieve information
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills
  • Ability to be flexible, multi-task and use own initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines and problem solve
  • Ability to work supportively within a team

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
