The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is a Faculty of King's College London and the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease.

The School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences (MHaPS) is one of three schools under the IoPPN, comprised of the four departments of Psychology; Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry; Health Service & Population Research; and Biostatistics & Health Informatics. With over 100 Principal Investigators, our research spans development from childhood to old age, encompassing basic research through to the development and implementation of treatments, services and policy.

The Senior Business Support Officer (HR&Finance) sits within the HR & Finance Cluster as part of the Schools Operational Management Professional Services (PS) team.

About the role:

An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen to join the Mental Health & Psychological Sciences (MHaPS) Professional Services (PS) team, and we are looking to appoint a highly efficient Senior Business Officer (HR & Finance) on a secondment basis to support administrative duties within the HR & Finance Cluster.

The role holder will work closely with the Senior Business Manager to deliver support to the four Departments. We have a small, busy, but friendly team that is working to strengthen the partnership between academics, researchers and professional services across the School, Faculty and University. The team were formed just over a year ago as part of a faculty-wide reshaping and has already started to build strong working relationships across the school, faculty and our colleagues within the central directorate teams. The post holder will be key to maintaining and building on these existing relationships.

The role would suit someone who is able to effectively manage competing priorities, pay good attention to detail and has a willingness and the ability to effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders. We will provide training on the various internal systems that will enable the successful candidate to work proactively and independently to complete tasks. The role will provide a wide variety of experience and skills to the post holder and provide opportunities for personal development through working across HR & Finance administration as part of the overall operational management for the large and complex School.

This is a full-time role, and it will be offered on a fixed term contract until the end of September 2025.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1. Working knowledge and experience of HR processes, software, and regulations.

2. Working knowledge and experience of Financial processes, software, and regulations.

3. Strong knowledge and skills in HR & Finance acquired through relevant posts, demonstrating development through progressively more demanding work/roles.

4. Relevant working experience using Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

5. Ability to understand and analyse data and produce an output.

6. Effective communication and interpersonal skills in order to receive, understand and relay complicated ideas or information to various groups of all levels.

7. Effective time management, ability to manage competing priorities, working independently and proactively, and with minimal supervision. Contributing to the broader team's goals and objectives.

8. Exceptional organisational skills, including administrative/operations experience with an in-depth knowledge of a range of practices, methods and procedures to deliver effective and efficient support

Desirable criteria

1. Working knowledge and experience of HR & finance systems (such as PeopleXD, KFin and Worktribe academic costings).

2. Experience of working within Higher Education or similar.

3. Experience having worked in a dedicated HR or finance department.

4. Experience in line management of administrative staff.
