Base salary: £61,622pa to c.£77,028pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits - check them out in the Benefits section on our website.

The Senior Business Manager is responsible for providing the Chief Commercial Officer with additional capacity to focus on strategic, operational and stakeholder issues. To lead on the business management controls required for the effective management of the CCO Directorate. The Senior Business Manager has responsibility for the internal management and co-ordination of the directorate, such as managing directorate finances, developing, negotiating with other directorates to agree deliverables and funding for, and the ongoing management of the business plan, ensuring that robust business processes are developed and integrated with the rest of the organisation. The role is key in driving performance improvement in the directorate. The Senior Business Manager will be the primary point of contact for procurement and Human Resources, overseeing the procurement pipeline, technical contract management and workforce plan for the directorate. The role provides a cross-functional overview and liaises and engages with key internal staff from across all HS2 directorates. The Senior Business Manager will also engage with key external stakeholders, suppliers and partners.
About the Role:
- Enable the delivery of the Chief Commercial Officer's priorities by working effectively across HS2, the supply chain and other stakeholders influencing and driving senior colleagues and suppliers to deliver successful outcomes for the CCO and wider Directorate.
- Provide scripts, briefings, advice and reports for the Chief Commercial Officer to support meeting preparations and follow up on agreed actions.
- Oversee the development and collation of the CCO Directorate's annual Business Plan and quarterly financial forecasts, monthly management information, and monitor and manage performance against plans.
- Oversee and coordinate development and maintenance of the Commercial directorate strategy, including vision, purpose and principles.
- Oversee recruitment approval and contract extension processes across the CCO Directorate, on behalf of the Chief Commercial Officer.
- Provide regular reporting on workforce numbers and financial spend to key stakeholders, and manage and mitigate financial risks to the directorate as necessary.
- Deliver specific projects and change initiatives as required by the Chief Commercial Officer.
- Provide the main point of contact for the Chief Commercial Officer with HS2 Ltd corporate support functions (e.g. HR, Finance, Facilities, Comms, etc.), and for key business improvement initiatives.
- Establish effective working relationships with HS2 suppliers, supply chain and other stakeholders to support and enable the CCO to efficiently manage those relationships strategically.
- Effectively manage the CCO office to ensure that all administration is enacted effectively and personnel are managed appropriately.
- Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

Skills:
- Ability to manage and influence senior stakeholders effectively, working to challenging deadlines and managing competing priorities.
- Ability to take multiple pieces of potentially complex information, rapidly grasp the context and present this clearly in written materials.
- Ability to gather and synthesise information, identifying options and applying sound judgement based on logic and reason, making use of a variety of analytical approaches to provide relevant information to suppliers, stakeholders and decision makers using key facts and data.
- Ability to lead a project, working independently to manage risks and escalate issues appropriately.
- Ability to promote collaboration across organisational boundaries, to achieve successful outcomes.
Knowledge:
- Understanding of a variety of project and programme management tools and techniques.
- Understanding of commercial contracting and supply chain management
- Understanding of HR and Finance data, processes and reporting.
- Understanding of reporting techniques, to enable effective monitoring and reporting on business performance.
- Understanding of business processes and how to effectively operate across organisational functions.
- Understanding the application of effective governance and control frameworks.

- Experience of developing and managing budgets and resource requirements.

- Experience of line management and wider matrix management of team members.
