Lancashire County Council is the fourth largest local authority in England. The area has a delightful mix of bustling towns and cities with a rich history of industry and creativity, sitting alongside peaceful, picturesque countryside and magnificent coastlines.

The county council's Business Intelligence team plays a central role in supporting all our council services, providing analyses to develop our understanding of the people who live in Lancashire and insight into Lancashire's social, economic and cultural landscape. We develop business critical reports and performance analyses, and support statutory and regulatory requirements. The team has experts in a broad range of business intelligence techniques, tools and technologies, as well as having a deep understanding of the council's functions and services.

This role presents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team at the heart of the council.

Senior Business Intelligence Officer

The post holder will design, undertake, analyse, report and disseminate research and consultation projects. The results from these projects will inform service design and decision making, for the benefit of policymakers, service providers, partners and the public.

Key responsibilities

• To lead on specific quantitative social research and consultation projects.
• To provide specialist advice and guidance on research and analysis to the users of research and consultation data.
• To deliver robust and accessible analysis to guide and inform strategic decision making, working directly with the teams in the county council and in partner organisations.
• To develop and maintain IT solutions to ensure respondent data are kept confidential and accurate.
• To undertake sampling and weighting response to ensure research is robust and representative.
• To support qualitative research projects as required.

Key requirements

• Experience of designing and undertaking quantitative or qualitative research or consultation projects.
• Experience of analysing, interpreting and presenting datasets created from research or consultation methods.
• Experience of using software for research and consultation, such as Excel, Snap Surveys or other online tools, or SPSS.
• Experience of producing and presenting data analysis and findings that are relevant for different users' needs and levels of technical understanding.
• Thorough knowledge of quantitative and qualitive research and consultation methods and their appropriate use.
• Ability to use questionnaire design software and online questionnaire tools.
• Highly numerate, with strong analytical skills and problem-solving capability.

During the selection process, candidates will be assessed against the essential qualifications, experience and knowledge, skills, and abilities, in the role profile.

The usual office base for this role is County Hall, Preston, although it is mainly home-based. You will be required to be in the office when needed.
