Job overview

The post is based within the Moorfields North Division (sites Ealing, Northwick Park, St Ann's Stratford).

The post holder must be enthusiastic, motivated, and eager to learn new skills. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to organised, to carry out instructions, and to pay attention to detail. Previous ophthalmic pharmacy experience is not required; however, a solid background in dispensing and procurement services in hospital pharmacy would be desirable.

The post holder will work in conjunction with the Lead Pharmacy Technician , Senior Pharmacy Technician to assist in the provision of high quality, patient focused, safe, effective and efficient Clinical Pharmacy Services for the Moorfields North Divisional outpatient eye clinic, day-case and theatres

Main duties of the job

- Dispensing ophthalmic medication including medication for discharge and outpatients
- Reception duties - taking in and handing out prescriptions
- Stock procurement, and maintenance stock expiry dates and levels, as well as records using the computer system
- Receipt of goods from wholesalers, manufacturers and elsewhere
- Stock assembly for the satellite service (including the pharmacy, theatres, Day-care and clinic)
- Supporting the Lead Pharmacy Technician in developing the ophthalmic pharmacy service
- Supporting medicines management initiatives across all clinical areas
- Answering queries on the supply and availability of medicines, as well as routine queries from patients

Education/Qualifcations

Essential criteria

  • Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent including Maths and English
  • BTEC or NVQ level 2 in pharmaceutical services or equivalent

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

  • Recent experience of working in a Pharmacy
  • Experience of working in a Pharmacy dispensary

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in a hospital Pharmacy
  • Medicines Management/Medicines Optimisation Experience
  • Ascribe/EMIS Dispensing System
