A fantastic opportunity is now available for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Archivist to join the friendly team at Bristol Archives (Bristol City Council). You will be based at B Bond Warehouse at the western end of the harbourside with superb views across to Avon Gorge and Suspension Bridge.

What's the role?

You'll play a key role in supporting Bristol Archives to deliver an outstanding Archives Service by leading on collections management, care and development of our Designated collection. You will also be responsible for the British Empire & Commonwealth Collection archive. You will report to our City Archivist and will work closely with our Senior Archivist (Access & Engagement) as part of our newly established leadership team.

We are working towards UK Archive Service re-Accreditation later this year, and we are also developing plans to expand our analogue and digital storage. You will line manage an exciting new project Digital Archivist post (funded by TNA Resilience and New Burdens grants) as well as our permanent team of professional archivists.

You will have a post grad qualification in archive administration (or equivalent), as well as relevant professional experience, including management of analogue, digitised and born-digital collections and expert knowledge in collections care. We are looking for our new Senior Archivist to be motivated and keen, with experience of managing staff and volunteers and thriving in a busy work environment.

You will be an excellent communicator, leader and team player. Ideally you will also have knowledge of digital preservation and digital asset management, as well as relevant specialist skills such as Latin, palaeography or empire & colonial history.
