Job Description

The Senior Architect is responsible for developing practical architectural solutions to meet site specific and location specific requirements, and operational and commercial objectives, whilst ensuring aesthetic and functional consistency across all De Beers stores.

The role will have luxury jewellery retail architectural, millwork design and construction experience.

Store concept governance

  • Manage external partners to create a global master set of technical drawings with a document revision process.
  • Guardian of the store concept detail drawings and responsible for the accuracy of all drawings within the Retail Design Manual and associated drawing packs.
  • Issue and present revisions and updates to all relevant parties.

Site specific governance

  • Provide space planning and feasibility studies for new store projects, via hand sketching and detailed plans, sections, interior and exterior elevations; presentation of designs to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review external architect proposals for adapting the global retail concept to sites, ensuring feasibility of design within commercial and operational constraints and briefs.
  • Communication with local achitects, city planning teams, store project teams, furniture construction suppliers, local shopfitters through to project completion.
  • Problem solve design solutions together with external architects and internal SDP project managers to ensure optimum client experience.
  • Review, mark-up and final approval of design intent and pre-construction drawing packs, providing clear communication and recommendations for improvement.
  • Review drawings through to construction issue, including construction drawing mark-ups and approvals, ensuring accuracy throughout all stages.
  • Create detail packs for the visual merchandising team, ensuring documents are presented within pre-specified timings.
  • Recommendation of materials, value engineering, design innovation and sustainability.
  • Review and approval of locally sourced materials in line with the global specifications.

Qualifications

  • Qualified architect.
  • Minimum 8 years in luxury retail architecture with proven accountability.
  • Experience in schematic design, design development, construction and installation processes.
  • Technical knowledge of millwork construction techniques, processes and materials.
  • Advanced knowledge of building systems (structural, architectural), building codes, environmental regulations, handicap accessibility codes and construction methods.
  • Ability to balance design with operational needs and budget objectives
  • Knowledge of store build regulations in APAC, EMEA & Americas would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to communicate at all levels across the business and externally - able to give clarity and set direction.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to plan and analyse multiple critical paths to achieve optimal delivery.
  • Understands own role in relation to the team and how it contributes.
