The role
The role of Senior Architect requires an individual with deep expertise in Amazon Web Services (AWS). You will lead the design and implementation of cloud-native applications and ensure our systems align with best practices for scalability, security, and performance. This role requires a balance of technical leadership, hands-on implementation, and strategic thinking.
This is a hands-on technical role within the Commercial Technology and Change engineering team, responsible for defining and aligning our application architecture across our application engineering delivery teams.
This is a thought leadership, people oriented role in terms of engaging with and influencing the delivery teams to adhere to and adopt best practice architecture patterns and principles. It will draw heavily on your technical know-how and practical experience of designing, building and supporting production systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and Design Solutions: Design scalable, secure, and resilient architectures on AWS to meet business objectives.
- Technical Leadership: Guide engineering teams on best practices, tools, and frameworks for cloud-native development.
- Hands-On Development: Write and review high-quality, reusable, and efficient code to support critical projects.
- Cost Optimisation: Analyse and optimise AWS usage to ensure cost-effective solutions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders, including product managers, developers, and operations teams, to align technology with business goals.
- Stay Current: Keep up-to-date with the latest AWS advancements and incorporate them into architectural strategies.

- Progressive technology outlook: maintaining a deep understanding of ITV's marketplace dynamics and relating that to emerging data related technologies and working practices
- Alignment approach: maintain an inclusive approach to key tech choices, building alignment and propagating best practice within the engineering function. Strong emphasis on building shared principles/values/approaches to embed capability
- Collaboration: good influencing & people skills to build shared understanding and buy-in to new ideas and change effectively
- Balance of outcome and process focus: thrives in an organised and process driven environment, but ready to adapt and evolve this to pragmatically deliver outcomes and results
- Agile mindset: Sharp focus on developing hypotheses and accelerating the path the user-centred learning to prove and evolve these
- Persistence and resilience: Within ITV it's particularly important as we work in a matrix set up, and to achieve your desired outcomes you have to sustain a clear commitment to our goals, principles and ways of working to overcome a range of challenges
Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)
Leadership and Management:
- Deep understanding and experience of key areas of responsibility identified for the role (above)
- Providing architectural direction to a team of engineers
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams
- Familiar with taking designs through a design authority / governance process
Technical Expertise:
- Extensive experience with AWS services, including but not limited to EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, Step Functions, Glue, WAF, EventBridge, Cognito, etc
- Strong understanding of AWS networking, security, and identity management services.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like AWS CloudFormation or Terraform.
- Deep knowledge of AWS Well-Architected Framework and best practices for designing and building scalable, reliable, and cost-effective solutions on AWS
- Historically strong programming/scripting skills in languages such as Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/Node, Typescript etc
Architecture and Design Skills:
- Proven track record in designing, implementing, and optimising cloud architectures on AWS, particularly serverless/micro service based solutions
- Ability to design highly available, fault-tolerant, and scalable systems that meet business requirements.
- Deep understanding of microservices and serverless architectures, and how to build them out
Other things we're looking for (key criteria)
- Knowledge of the UK broadcast industry & broadcast/OTT advertising market
- Knowledge of digital marketing and advertising industry
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect
- Good understanding of data governance, data privacy, and security principles.
