Applications are invited for the 12 months fixed-term post of Senior Anatomical Pathology Technologist for the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Mortuary Service. We are looking for an individual with proven technical skills to provide maternity cover and support our busy team.

Our service is comprised of two HTA-licensed mortuary sites, with Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital Mortuary currently providing hospital and Coronial services, and The Royal Hampshire County Hospital Mortuary providing hospital, Coronial and a forensic mortuary services. In total, around 1200 Coronial Post Mortems are carried out annually over both sites. Applicants should have a detailed awareness of HTA standards and licensing requirements.

The successful candidate will have an innate empathic approach towards the bereaved and a supportive attitude to colleagues in an emotionally and physically demanding workplace. The role will include participating in the 24/7 on-call service and as a dual site mortuary service, while the successful candidate will be based routinely at the Basingstoke site for technical work, there will be a rotational requirement to work cross-site to ensure consistent technical support to the overall service. Fixed term position: 37.5 hours + on call

Main duties of the job

To support the Mortuary Manager in the provision and development of a comprehensive mortuary service at Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital and Royal Hampshire County Hospital at Winchester mortuaries To assist in organising staff in the day to day operational rota, overseeing and training junior staff when conducting post mortem examinations, receiving / releasing and ensuring that confidentiality and dignity of the deceased are maintained at all times

Essential criteria

  • Certificate and Diploma / Diploma level 3 & 4 in Anatomical Pathology Technology or equivalent practical experience

Desirable criteria

  • Management/Leadership Qualification

Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum of 2/3 years working as a qualified APT

Desirable criteria

  • Teaching or Training Qualification

Skills and Abilities

  • Proven Communication skills, able to communicate information clearly and professionally to other Healthcare professionals
