In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

Job overview

The position is being offered as a Band 7 training (Annex 21) role for one year, with a salary of £39,606 per annum, pro rata. Upon completion of agreed competencies this will increase to £46,148 per annum, pro rata.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated SQL Developer who is looking to further their career by joining our expanding Database Administration and Integration team. This post is being offered under Annex 21 for one year to give time for support and development to enable the successful candidate to fulfil the core competencies.

This is a newly created position within a small but enthusiastic team who work closely together to seek out innovative solutions which ultimately support the delivery of the Trust's vision and Digital Strategy. You will be working on a number of exciting developments, including Azure Synapse and the implementation of a full Electronic Patient Record (EPR) across the Trust, alongside business as usual tasks.

Working in partnership with industry leading Microsoft Gold Partner Azure experts, you'll be responsible for the continuous development of data warehousing and reporting solutions which the Trust relies upon for the benefit of both its patients and staff.

Main duties of the job

You will need to have good SQL (SSIS, SSRS and query building) skills, logical reasoning skills, analytics development skills and ideally be experienced in optimising data models and queries. You will be required to gather requirements from our customers and design and develop robust and efficient data products for reporting and analytical uses.

There will be options for home/remote working but the successful candidate will be required to spend time onsite at Conquest Hospital.

With support, the role offers the opportunity to lead on the design, monitoring, maintenance and improvement of current data flows and warehousing processes. The job role will include involvement in the planning and implementation of this process and the post holder will also be responsible for investigating and deploying innovative ways to improve systems.

You will be required to analyse and interpret complex data and develop data engineering solutions to present this data to colleagues across the Trust in ways which are easily understood.

You will be a technical specialist, working alongside clinical and non-clinical colleagues, third party suppliers and senior managers, to suggest and implement solutions, monitoring and reporting on activity and maintaining standards of working in accordance with agreed design and project protocols.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Bachelor's degree in computing related field
  • Evidence of ongoing learning to postgraduate level
  • In depth knowledge of database design, installation and maintenance, data migration techniques and relevant technologies/languages to master's degree level

Desirable criteria

  • Microsoft certified
  • ITIL Foundation

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience designing and developing highly complex data-centric solutions
  • Experience using SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS and Visual Studio in a commercial environment
  • Experience of interfacing highly complex datasets between bespoke systems both in real time and as batch processing
  • Experience of extracting, manipulating and presenting highly complex datasets to non-technical end users in a clear and concise manner
  • Experience of implementing and supporting enterprise level Data Warehouses (preferably SQL Server)
  • Project management

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of using Visual Studio in a healthcare environment either within the NHS or private sector
  • Experience of interfacing highly complex datasets between bespoke healthcare systems in real time

Skills

Essential criteria

  • In depth knowledge of some of the following technologies/languages/constructs: TSQL, ASSL, DAX, Powershell, C#, Python, VB.NET, HTML, XML, JSON, CSS, XSL, XSLT, HL7, ODBC, VBA, Javascript, BASH, R
  • In-depth knowledge of database design, installation and maintenance (preferably SQL Server)
  • In-depth knowledge of data migration techniques including design, extraction, cleansing, load and verification
  • Understanding and practical experience using various development methodologies (Waterfall, Agile etc)

Desirable criteria

  • Appreciation and understanding of the development process, including information gathering, specification writing, information architecture, quality assurance, launch, user feedback and maintenance
  • Able to use various reporting tools such as Power BI, Power Apps, Crystal Reports, Business Objects, MS Access, SQL Server Reporting Services
