Job summary

As a Senior Analyst you will deliver data and insight to stakeholders across the health and care system, so that they can improve the delivery of NHS services and patient safety. This role is to support our Provider Assurance team, who support primary care contractors to meet their contractual obligations. They do this on behalf of NHS England, and the Welsh Government.

You will have a specific area of expertise, such as prescriptions, dental or ophthalmic data, where you will work with key internal and external stakeholders, to understand their needs and create the right insight.

Your insight may be shared with a few key stakeholders or thousands of people across the NHS and beyond who use our data products and services.

The post can be based at our NHSBSA offices in Newcastle or Eastbourne, though the role will require travel.

Main duties of the job

To provide data and insight to Provider Assurance colleagues via a range of reporting tools, along with advise on best practice for developing reporting. Assist with answering ad-hoc queries from Provider Assurance, and evaluate data quality of Provider Assurance datasets.

Job responsibilities

In this role, you are accountable for:

  • Conducting analysis, interpretation and presentation of highly complex data and information to support informed decision making within the health and care system. This will include communicating complex data and analyses effectively at all levels to both technical and non-technical audiences verbally and in writing.

Customer

  • Representing the organisation as a data/business expert with internal and external customers. You will engage with stakeholders, such as working groups made up of clinical and non-clinical experts, to capture user needs.
  • Ensuring the information provided is accessible and understandable to a wide audience, and that it conforms to expected high standards. This includes ensuring your work complies with information governance requirements.
  • Providing training to customers and internal staff, in conjunction with the Data Services team, on the use of data and the interpretation of information reports.

Knowledge and analytical leadership

  • Providing analyses to support the development and refinement of metrics and reports to highlight trends, identify outlier behaviours within the data sets and risks within NHS services.
  • Deciding on the best methodology to analyse, investigate and resolve complex analytical queries or problems where there is a range of options. You will focus on identifying the best way to create actionable insight, which may require you to work through highly complex information problems where leading opinions conflict.
  • Building fully documented analysis, reports, and dashboards for use by external customers to required specifications. This will also involve providing information to answer Parliamentary Questions and Freedom of Information requests. You will ensure that accompanying notes and definitions are regularly reviewed and updated where appropriate.
  • Ensuring the integrity of the data, reports and information requests are quality checked in conjunction with statisticians, business, and clinical experts as appropriate.
  • Seeking to work in the open as default. This will involve sharing your work across Data and Insight and taking an active part in the relevant Communities of Practice. You will also seek to work in the open, in line with the NHS Service Standard.

Leadership

  • Informing the relevant product backlog, via user stories and epics, of what is required to deliver the work. This will be in line with the Agile methodology.
  • Proposing policy or service changes to improve the products and services of the department or to improve internal processes and the customer experience.
  • Planning and organising your own workload. You will manage activities or projects that require formulation or adjustment.
  • Participating in organisation wide and NHS projects and working groups where appropriate. This may involve taking on a lead role based on experience.
