Your Team: You'll be joining the Analytics team to help maximise our relationship with the 30m+ monthly readers of The Sun, contributing to continued annual growth. We are at the forefront of innovative approaches to both data and customer experience, evidenced by the team recently winning 4 'best use of data' awards, living up to our vision of driving the business through data.
Your Role: You will add value by partnering with senior stakeholder groups across The Sun to drive customer behaviour and advise on how we can utilise our data to meet our objectives. You will work closely with teams including the Newsrooms, Product Development, Marketing, User Experience and Technology to provide innovative ideas and actionable insights to improve decision making, content commissioning and ultimately engagement and upsell.
Day to day you will:
- Act as the primary expert for all web analytics requirements, collaborating closely with stakeholders across The Sun, including Editorial, Product, Marketing, UX, and CRM teams.
- Proactively shape data-informed decision-making processes by delivering impactful insights and solutions.
- Lead the development of data products and reports using GCP BigQuery for SQL-based analysis and Tableau and Looker Studio for dynamic, interactive reporting and dashboards. Drive adoption and ensure outputs are actionable and accessible for diverse audiences.
- Provide strategic insights from large and complex datasets to influence key business areas such as Editorial direction, product commissioning, audience growth, and campaign performance.
- Design and implement scalable dashboards and reporting frameworks that enable stakeholders to monitor KPIs effectively and make real-time decisions.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate repetitive analytics workflows, leveraging tools and scripting to improve team efficiency.
- Mentor and develop junior team members, sharing best practices in SQL, data visualisation, and analytics workflows. Help refine their skills and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with the Analytics Manager to execute high-priority projects and support strategic initiatives, contributing to the long-term analytics roadmap for The Sun.
What we're looking for from you:
- Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in GCP BigQuery for SQL-based data manipulation, modelling, and large-scale dataset analysis. Strong experience with reporting tools such as Tableau and Looker Studio, including building and maintaining sophisticated dashboards and visualisations. Knowledge of Python to be able to decode and make amendments to existing code sets would be an advantage.
- Analytical Acumen: Proven ability to derive meaningful insights from complex datasets and translate them into actionable recommendations that drive business impact. Experience in analysing digital audience behaviour and understanding key performance metrics across web and mobile platforms.
- Stakeholder Engagement:Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex findings clearly to non-technical audiences. Confident in managing senior stakeholder relationships, facilitating discussions, and translating business challenges into analytical solutions.
- Leadership & Mentoring: Demonstrated experience mentoring junior analysts, ensuring they adopt best practices and develop their technical and professional skills. A team player who thrives on collaboration, consistently delivering high-quality work within deadlines.
- Curiosity & Innovation:A proactive problem-solver with a deep curiosity for understanding trends and identifying opportunities for growth and efficiency. Familiarity with emerging analytics tools and methodologies, applying them to improve processes and outputs.
- Automation & Efficiency: Expertise in automating analytics workflows to enhance efficiency, ensuring more focus on tackling complex and high-value challenges.
