Senior Aerothermal Engineer
This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.
Responsibilities
The Senior Aerothermal Engineer is responsible for the development, analysis, and validation of aerospace thermal management systems within the NPI and Sustaining team, using 1D modelling and simulation tools to predict component and subsystem performance across the operating envelope. The role applies aerothermal and thermodynamic expertise to deliver robust designs that meet performance, durability, weight, and efficiency targets.
The role defines modelling approaches, requirements, and design trade studies; leads model correlation with rig and engine/aircraft test data; and provides clear, data-driven recommendations to engineering and programme stakeholders. It also supports product verification and compliance, resolves complex cross-functional technical issues, and provides lifecycle support from concept through certification and in-service improvement.
Your responsibilities
• Direct and steer the development, maintenance, and application of 1D thermal-fluid models to predict component and subsystem performance across the full operating envelope.
• Provide technical leadership in aerothermal and thermodynamic analysis to optimise designs for performance, durability, weight, and efficiency.
• Define validation strategies and lead model correlation with rig and engine/aircraft test data to support robust, evidence-based design decisions.
• Provide technical direction to Test Engineering on component and subsystem testing, including test definition, instrumentation requirements, execution support, and post-test analysis.
• Work closely with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Suppliers/Customers to resolve complex technical issues, drive corrective actions, and improve producibility and reliability.
• Lead continuous improvement of modelling tools, methods, and correlation practices, while mentoring engineers in analysis, validation, and technical decision-making
Who we are looking for
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; Master's degree preferred.
• Typically. 5+ years relevant engineering experience, preferably within aerospace.
• Experience in 1D thermal-fluid sizing and modelling and wider engineering analysis tools.
• Experience in heat exchanger sizing is advantageous.
• Experience with 3D CAD; DFMEA and DfM knowledge preferred.
• Strong grounding in engineering fundamentals, product design, and applicable industry standards.
What we offer
• Strong grounding in a growing global Fortune 250 business.
• Progression - we offer career development and we hire from within!
• Collaborative and empowered work environment
• Attractive compensation packages designed to hire and retain the best talents.
