About the Role:

Actuarial Analyst role in the Actuarial Pricing & Analytics Team (more details on the team below). The team is a project-based team with limited BAU that works on key strategic priorities that are broader than any one market/product/region. Priorities include improving pricing & risk selection sophistication, digitising pricing models and delivering scalable analytics.

Candidates are not required to have an actuarial background or required to study for actuarial qualifications. Ideal candidates would have the capacity and desire for continuous and independent learning, a high rate of learning, are delivery focused, organised, and collaborative.

Whilst previous experience working in (re)insurance pricing/analytics teams is an advantage, it is not a prerequisite. We encourage candidates who display the key behaviours discussed above to apply. The role of analyst is typically held by graduate to part qualified experience level (or equivalent years' experience).

About the Department & Team:

The Actuarial Function evaluates business performance and provide Liberty Speciality Markets' management with a clear, risk-based view for making decisions on business strategy and risk mitigation. The department covers all aspects of actuarial work including pricing, reserving, business planning, and capital, and supporting exposure management and reinsurance purchasing. The team operates on a global basis with a team of around ninety actuaries, of which around sixty are based in the UK. The Actuarial Function currently comprises the following core teams:

  • Actuarial Pricing and Analytics Team: broad and varied remit supporting delivery on key strategic priorities, including delivering new pricing models on leading-edge platforms as part of the wider underwriting transformation, developing new predictive models and delivering consistent and scalable Actuarial pricing and portfolio analytics MI (Management Information) and standards across LSM, working closely with stakeholders across Actuarial, Finance, Operations, Technology, Data, Digital and Underwriting.
  • Business Actuarial Teams: business partners to Underwriting and aligned business functions, responsibilities include for class-level pricing and business planning. Multi-functional teams and roles managing, strongly supported with a core centralised data, analytics, modelling, reporting and risk governance infrastructure provided by the other Actuarial teams outlined below.
  • Reserving Team: coordinates the reserving process and regulatory reporting requirements related to GAAP and SII Technical Provisions. Supporting across all LSM Underwriting Pillars and Legal Entities, the team own and ensure timely production of core reserving data, software, reporting infrastructure and peer review.
  • Actuarial Modelling Team: Maintains and develops the Internal Model for capital assessment and solvency reporting requirements of LSM's regulated Legal Entities. Working closely with the Actuarial teams above and other LSM Enterprise Risk Management and Finance business functions in parameterisation, validation and modelling infrastructure; supporting risk and return on equity-based decision making across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pricing Models - Support the delivery of new pricing models and MI as part of the wider underwriting transformation including deploying new and updated models on all LSM platforms. These are on a mix of technologies from vendor based (Rulebook and Hyperexponential Renew), in house and Excel based platforms. Strategic direction is to limit usage of Excel and end user computing tools over time.
  • Self-service analytics - Drive the delivery of insightful and timely self-service MI on portfolios, lines of business and key risks to drive better data driven decisions within key forums such as pricing committees, quarterly business reviews and deep dive
  • Analytical projects - Collaborate, influence and lead development and rollout of analytical models (risk selection, portfolio monitoring, trend identification etc.) that help drive competitive advantage. Dynamically manage multiple analytics projects affecting multiple stakeholders ensuring quality technical delivery and good stakeholder management.
  • Pricing governance framework - Be responsible for the delivery of projects in compliance against both internal and external standards.
  • Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements forms part of your role, and the demonstration of behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to your role, is core to LSM's commitment to our Liberty Values, placing customers at the centre of our business and behaving with integrity. Skills and Experience:

  • Requires educational attainments: 2.1 or above (or equivalent) in a numerate/scientific degree and an A / A* in A-Level Maths or equivalent
  • Strong IT skills with practical experience (and/or desire to learn) in Excel, SQL, Python, R, PowerPivot, PowerBI, and DAX
  • modelling and analytics in the (re)insurance industry is an advantage but not a requirement. Relevant experience from data science, consulting, commercial or personal lines also welcomed.

  • Experience working with rating technologies for example Rulebook, Hyperexponential Renew, Emblem, Radar, Tyche etc. would be an advantage but is not a requirement
  • Experience of working in a non-life commercial (re)insurance pricing team or doing predictive
  • Ability to utilise relevant methods, data, and tools effectively to solve technical problems, communicate technical concepts effectively to varying audiences, draw meaningful conclusions and make recommendations, enhance actuarial analyses ensuring clear audit trails.
  • Strong desire to learn and continually advance breadth and depth of expertise supporting delivery of array of different projects and workstreams. High degree of self-motivation, maturity and positive outlook
  • Ability to foster cross-functional relationships, engage in inclusive problem-solving, and drive innovative solutions by considering multiple stakeholder perspectives and requirements.
  • Serve as a mentor and coach to other team members where relevant, promoting trust, motivation, and engagement within a specific area of expertise.
  • Assume ownership and responsibility for delivery, manage timelines and workload effectively, ensure error-free and well-reviewed work, respond proactively to feedback, and take responsibility for detailed handovers and personal skill development.
